T\u00e4t\u00e4 ennen vieraan kielen opetus alkoi viimeist\u00e4\u00e4n kolmannella luokalla, joskin monet koulut olivat tarjonneet mahdollisuutta aiempaan aloitukseen jo ennen vuotta 2020. Varhaisemman kielten opetuksen aloituksen pyrkimyksen\u00e4 on positiivisten asenteiden luominen, sek\u00e4 yksil\u00f6n itsevarmuuden kasvattaminen omia kykyj\u00e4 kohtaan. Koska kaikki oppilaat eiv\u00e4t viel\u00e4 osaa lukea tai kirjoittaa ensimm\u00e4isen luokan alkaessa, opetusmetodeina hy\u00f6dynnet\u00e4\u00e4n toiminnallisia menetelmi\u00e4, kuten leikki\u00e4, musiikkia, pelej\u00e4 ja liikett\u00e4.\n\nT\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa perehdyttiin toiminnallisiin opetusmenetelmiin sek\u00e4 niiden k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n ja vaikutuksiin 1. ja 2. luokan opettajien n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 1. ja 2. luokan opettajien kokemuksia toiminnallisista opetusmenetelmist\u00e4 englannin kielen oppitunneilla. Tutkimus toteutettiin laadullisena tutkimuksena haastattelemalla kahta luokanopettajaa et\u00e4yhteyden v\u00e4lityksell\u00e4. Haastattelut olivat puolistrukturoituja ja niiden sis\u00e4lt\u00f6j\u00e4 analysoitiin laadullisen sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysin keinoin teemoittelemalla aineisto ja vertaamalla litteraatteja tutkimuskysymyksiin.\n\nTutkimuksen tulokset olivat toiminnallisten opetusmenetelmien kannalta hyvin positiivisia. Kummallakaan opettajalla ei ollut oppikirjaa k\u00e4yt\u00f6ss\u00e4 englannin opetuksessa, mutta vihkoja k\u00e4ytettiin satunnaisesti. Molemmat opettajat k\u00e4yttiv\u00e4t runsaasti toiminnallisia opetusmenetelmi\u00e4, kuten erilaisia lauluja ja laululeikkej\u00e4, liikett\u00e4 ja liikkumista lis\u00e4ttyn\u00e4 tavallisiin teht\u00e4viin, draamaa, sek\u00e4 erilaisia pelej\u00e4. Opettajat kokivat, ett\u00e4 toiminnalliset opetusmenetelm\u00e4t lis\u00e4siv\u00e4t oppilaiden motivaatiota ja keskittymist\u00e4 ja lis\u00e4ksi ne toivat vaihtelevaa sis\u00e4lt\u00f6\u00e4 oppitunteihin. Opettajat mainitsivat, ett\u00e4 vapaus k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 erilaisia opetustapoja lis\u00e4si my\u00f6s heid\u00e4n ty\u00f6t\u00e4\u00e4n kohtaan kokemaansa motivaatiota.
