This essay has been written as a literature review. Its aim was to examine the differences between hard-coded artificial intelligence and artificial intelligence that utilizes neural networks, and why, for example, chess is often used when developing them. Based on the articles I have read, neural networks are likely to be the foundation of future AI, but hard-coded AI should not be excluded in all situations.
