Tarkastelussa ovat faniyhteisön yhteisöllisyyden rakentuminen, kielen keinot toteuttaa hashtagille asetettuja käyttötavoitteita, sekä kampanjan sanoman toteutuminen faniyhteisön twiiteissä. Tutkimus keskittyy LOVE MYSELF-Twitter tilin, sekä faniyhteisön twiitteihin tilillä. 66 twiittiä valikoitui tarkempaan analyysiin. Tutkimus sovelsi menetelmiä aikaisempien tutkimusten valossa, yhdistäen diskurssintutkimusta ja SFL-teoriaa (Systemic Functional Linguistics), sekä hyödyntäen Michele Zappavignan (2011, 2015) ja Peter Wikströmin (2014) tutkimuksia hashtagien käytöstä. Tutkimus totesi hashtagin käytön korreloivan yhteisöllisyyden tunteen lisäämiseen faniyhteisössä, ja kykeni erittelemään keinoja, joilla tämä saavutettiin niin fanien itsensä toimesta kuin LOVE MYSELF- tilin keinoista aktivoida käyttäjiä hashtagin käyttöön. Kommunikatiivisia keinoja tunnistetiin pääosin yhteisö- mutta myös yksilötasolla, yhdistäen näiden kohtaamisen eri konteksteissa. This bachelor's thesis focuses on the communicative functions that can be identified in the ARMY fan community’s use of (#)BTSLoveMyself. The hashtag is part of the LOVE MYSELF-campaign by UNICEF and BTS, which supports young people around the world while speaking for the importance of loving oneself. The main focus is on the way the fan community builds a sense of belonging to the community, ways in which language performs through the hashtag, and in how the campaign's message is present and spread in the fan community’s tweets while the hashtag is present. The LOVE MYSELF- official Twitter account was the main focus for data, as 66 tweets both by the account and fans were chosen for further analysis. The study applied methods in the light of previous studies, such as discourse analysis and SFL-theory (Systemic Functional Linguistics), as well as studies on hashtags by Michele Zappavigna (2011, 2015) and Peter Wikström (2014). The study revealed hashtag use to correlate with the built sense of community to increase within the fan community, and was able to specify functions that correspond to it, both in the fan community and in the LOVE MYSELF-account, particularly its ways to engage users to use the hashtag. Communicative functions could be identified mostly related to community use, but also to an individual level, linking the two in different contexts in the analysis of tweets.
