Kasvatukseen k\u00e4ytett\u00e4v\u00e4n veden m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 on n\u00e4in pienempi ja ravinteiden poisto helpompaa kuin l\u00e4pivirtauskasvatuksessa. Yhdistetyss\u00e4 kiertovesi- ja merikasvatuksessa kalat kasvatetaan ensin kiertovedess\u00e4, mink\u00e4 j\u00e4lkeen ne siirret\u00e4\u00e4n mereen jatkokasvatukseen. Menetelm\u00e4n avulla on mm. mahdollista nopeuttaa tuotantokiertoa. Sen soveltuvuutta Suomen olosuhteisiin ei juurikaan ole tutkittu. Lis\u00e4ksi kiertovesikasvatetun kalan kasvusta merell\u00e4 on toistaiseksi vain v\u00e4h\u00e4n tietoa ja kokemuksia, mink\u00e4 vuoksi aihe vaatii viel\u00e4 lis\u00e4tutkimuksia. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkielman tavoitteena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, eroaako kierto- ja osittaiskiertovedess\u00e4 kasvatettujen kirjolohien (Oncorhynchus mykiss) kasvuun l\u00e4ht\u00f6 makean ja suolaisen veden olosuhteisiin siirt\u00e4misen j\u00e4lkeen. Tavoitteena oli my\u00f6s selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 kirjolohen koon vaikutusta kasvuun l\u00e4ht\u00f6\u00f6n siirt\u00e4misen j\u00e4lkeen. Kirjolohenpoikasia kasvatettiin kierto- ja osittaiskiertovedess\u00e4, joista poikasia siirrettiin makeaan ja suolaiseen veteen. Siirroista ensimm\u00e4inen toteutettiin kes\u00e4kuussa ja toinen syyskuussa. Alkun\u00e4ytteenotto suoritettiin ennen siirtoja ja loppun\u00e4ytteenotto viiden viikon kuluttua siirrosta. Poikasten kasvua seurattiin mittaamalla ja punnitsemalla poikasia ja lis\u00e4ksi niiden fysiologisia vasteita siirtoihin selvitettiin verin\u00e4ytteist\u00e4 otettujen mittausten (hematokriitti, osmolaliteetti, kloridi- ja kortisolipitoisuus) perusteella. Kes\u00e4kuussa suoritetussa siirrossa osittaiskiertovedess\u00e4 kasvatetut kirjolohet kasvoivat makeassa vedess\u00e4 merkitsev\u00e4sti paremmin kuin suolaisessa vedess\u00e4, mutta kiertovedess\u00e4 kasvatetuilla kirjolohilla eroa kasvussa ei havaittu. Syyskuussa suoritetussa siirrossa sek\u00e4 kierto- ett\u00e4 osittaiskiertovedess\u00e4 kasvatetut kirjolohet kasvoivat makeassa vedess\u00e4 merkitsev\u00e4sti paremmin kuin suolaisessa vedess\u00e4. Kirjolohien fysiologisissa vasteissa siirtoon ei juurikaan havaittu merkitsevi\u00e4 eroja. N\u00e4in ollen stressi ei n\u00e4ytt\u00e4isi selitt\u00e4v\u00e4n eroja kirjolohen kasvuun l\u00e4hd\u00f6ss\u00e4. However, increasing production is problematic because of environmental effects of fish farming. Potential alternative to increase production would be recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). It is a fish farming method in which water is recycled between fish tanks and water treatment system. The amount of water used for farming is thus smaller and the removal of nutrients is easier than in flow-through system. In combined land and sea cages farming, fish are first farmed in RAS and then transferred to sea cages for further farming. The method makes it possible to speed up the production cycle. However, suitability of the method to Finnish conditions has not been studied. So far, there is little information and experience about the growth of RAS-farmed fish in the sea, which is why the topic still requires further research. The aim of the thesis was to find out whether the growth of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) farmed in RAS and PRAS (partial RAS) differs after transfer to fresh and salt water. The aim was also to study the effect of rainbow trout size on growth after transfers. In this study, juvenile rainbow trout were farmed in RAS and PRAS. The first transfer in which the juveniles were transferred to fresh and salt water happened in June. Another similar transfer happened in September. Samples were taken before transfer and five weeks after transfer. Growth of juvenile rainbow trout was followed by measuring and weighing the juveniles. Their physiological responses to transfer were examined using blood samples (hematocrit, osmolality, chloride, and cortisol). In the first transfer, PRAS-farmed rainbow trout juveniles grew significantly better in fresh water than in salt water. There was no significant difference in RAS-farmed juveniles. In the second transfer, RAS- and PRAS-farmed juveniles grew significantly better in fresh water than in salt water. No significant differences were observed in the physiological responses of juveniles to the transfers. Thus, stress does not seem to explain the differences in the growth of juvenile rainbow trout. Based on this thesis, RAS- and PRAS-farmed rainbow trout grow worse in salt water than in fresh water.
