Lis\u00e4ksi selvitettiin, millainen yhteys koulun ja l\u00e4himm\u00e4n uimahallin \nv\u00e4lisell\u00e4 et\u00e4isyydell\u00e4 on kuudesluokkalaisten oppilaiden uimataitoon, koulun uintitunneille \nosallistumiseen ja kouluajan ulkopuolisiin uimahallik\u00e4ynteihin. Tutkimuksen aihe rajautui\nkoulun ja uimahallin v\u00e4lisen et\u00e4isyyteen sek\u00e4 sen vaikutusten tarkasteluun, sill\u00e4 aiempaa \ntutkimusta aiheesta ei ole tehty.\nKuudesluokkalaisten uimataito on uimataitotutkimuksen historian alhaisinta\n(Uimataitotutkimus 2022, 11). Oppilaista vain hieman yli puolet t\u00e4ytt\u00e4v\u00e4t pohjoismaisen \nuimataidon m\u00e4\u00e4ritelm\u00e4n (200 metri\u00e4 syv\u00e4ss\u00e4 vedess\u00e4, josta v\u00e4hint\u00e4\u00e4n 50 metri\u00e4 sel\u00e4ll\u00e4\u00e4n).\nPerusopetuksen opetussuunnitelma (2014) edellytt\u00e4\u00e4 liikunnanopetuksen sis\u00e4lt\u00e4v\u00e4n \nuinninopetusta, vesiliikuntaa ja vesipelastusta. Uintitunteja ei kuitenkaan j\u00e4rjestet\u00e4 kaikissa \nSuomen kouluissa, ja kolmasosa oppilaista ei osallistunut yhdellek\u00e4\u00e4n uintitunnille kuudennella \nluokalla vuonna 2022. Tutkimuksessa mitattiin koulujen (n=114) et\u00e4isyys l\u00e4himm\u00e4st\u00e4 \nuimahallista Google Maps alustalla. Koulujen keskim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4inen et\u00e4isyys m\u00e4\u00e4ritettiin, ja sit\u00e4\ntarkasteltiin lis\u00e4ksi AVI-alueittain ja kuntaryhmitt\u00e4in yksisuuntaisella varianssianalyysill\u00e4.\nOppilaat (n=1798) luokiteltiin koulun ja uimahallin v\u00e4lisen et\u00e4isyyden mukaan viiteen \net\u00e4isyysluokkaan. Tutkimuksessa tutkittiin eroavaisuuksia uimataidossa, koulun uintitunteihin \nosallistumisessa sek\u00e4 kouluajan ulkopuolisissa uimahallik\u00e4ynneiss\u00e4 et\u00e4isyysluokkien v\u00e4lill\u00e4.\nEdell\u00e4 mainittuja muuttujia tarkasteltiin lis\u00e4ksi sukupuolittain. Et\u00e4isyysluokkien v\u00e4lisi\u00e4 \neroavaisuuksia tarkasteltiin ristiintaulukoinnilla ja z-testill\u00e4. Tilastollisten eroavaisuuksien\nm\u00e4\u00e4ritt\u00e4miseen k\u00e4ytettiin Khiin neli\u00f6testi\u00e4.\nKeskim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4inen et\u00e4isyys koululta uimahallille oli 12,2 kilometri\u00e4. Lapin AVI-alueella et\u00e4isyys \noli keskim\u00e4\u00e4rin pidempi muihin AVI-alueisiin n\u00e4hden (p<0,001). Maaseutumaisissa kunnissa \nkeskim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4inen et\u00e4isyys koululta uimahallille (20,1 km) oli yli kaksinkertainen verrattuna \ntaajaan asuttuihin ja kaupunkimaisiin kuntiin (p<0,001). Kuudesluokkalaisten uimataito oli \nheikoin koulun ja l\u00e4himm\u00e4n uimahallin v\u00e4lisen et\u00e4isyyden kasvaessa yli 20 kilometriin\n(p<0,05). Kaupunkimaisissa ja taajaan asutuissa kunnissa oli enemm\u00e4n uimataitoisia verrattuna \nmaaseutumaisiin kuntiin (p<0,05). Uintitunneille osallistui v\u00e4hiten oppilaita koulun sijaitessa\n2,1\u20135 kilometrin et\u00e4isyydell\u00e4 uimahallista (p<0,05), joskin koronapandemialla n\u00e4ytti olleen \nvaikutusta erityisesti t\u00e4h\u00e4n et\u00e4isyysluokkaan. Yli 20 kilometrin et\u00e4isyysluokassa osallistuminen \nkoulun uintitunneille oli my\u00f6skin keskiarvoa alhaisempaa (p<0,05). Maaseutumaisten kuntien \nkoulut sek\u00e4 yli 20 kilometrin et\u00e4isyydell\u00e4 uimahallista olevat koulut n\u00e4ytt\u00e4v\u00e4t olevan \nep\u00e4edullisessa asemassa sek\u00e4 uimataidon ett\u00e4 uintitunneille osallistumisen suhteen. Kaikille \ntasa-arvoisen POPS:n (2014) mukaisen uinninopetuksen ja uimataidon mahdollistamiseksi \ntulisi pyrki\u00e4 kehitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n uinninopetusta erityisesti kouluissa, jotka sijaitsevat yli 20 kilometrin \net\u00e4isyydell\u00e4 uimahallista.", "language": "fi", "element": "description", "qualifier": "abstract", "schema": "dc"}, {"key": "dc.description.abstract", "value": "The purpose of this study was to determine the distance from school to the closest swimming \nfacility and how this distance vary in different Regional State Administrative Agencies and \nmunicipal groups. Additionally, the study investigated the relationship between the distance of \nthe school from the nearest swimming hall and the swimming ability of sixth-grade pupils, as \nwell as their participation in school and leisure time swimming sessions. The research topic is \nlimited to examining the distance between the school and the swimming facility and its impact \non swimming ability and swimming habits, as no previous research has been conducted on this \ntopic.\nThe swimming ability of sixth graders in Finland is at its lowest in the history of the swimming \nability research. Only slightly over half of the pupils meet the Nordic definition of the\nswimming ability (200 meters in deep water, with at least 50 meters on their back). The national \ncore curriculum (2014) requires physical education to include swimming lessons, water sports, \nand water rescue. However, not all Finnish schools organize swimming lessons, and one-third \nof pupils did not participate in any swimming lessons in sixth grade in 2022. The distance of \nschools (n=114) from the nearest swimming facility was measured using Google Maps. The \naverage distance was determined and it was also examined by Regional State Administrative \nAgencies and by municipal groups using one-way ANOVA. The students (n=1798) were \ndivided into five distance categories based on the distance between the school and the \nswimming facility. The study examined differences in swimming ability, participation in school \nswimming lessons, and leisure swimming sessions among the distance categories. These \nvariables were also analyzed by gender. Differences between distance categories were \nexamined by cross-tabulating and z-testing. The chi-square test was used to determine statistical \ndifferences.\nThe average distance from school to the nearest swimming facility in Finland was 12.2 \nkilometers. In the Lapland regional state administrative agency area, the average distance was \nlonger compared to other areas (p<0.001). In rural municipalities, the average distance from \nschool to the nearest swimming facility (20.1 km) was more than twice as long compared to \ndensely populated and urban municipalities (p<0.001). The swimming ability of sixth-grade \npupils was worst when the distance between the school and the nearest swimming pool \nexceeded 20 kilometers (p<0.05). In urban and densely populated municipalities, there were \nmore students who were able to swim compared to rural municipalities (p<0.05). The \nparticipation in school swimming sessions was lowest when the school was located at a distance \nof 2.1\u20135 kilometers from the swimming hall (p<0.05) although the COVID-19 pandemic \nseemed to have an impact particularly on this distance category. In the distance category of over \n20 kilometers, participation in school swimming lessons was also below average (p<0.05). The \npupils whose school was located in rural municipalities or more than 20 kilometers away from \nswimming facility appear to be in a disadvantageous position regarding both pupils swimming \nability and participation in swimming lessons.
