Kest\u00e4vyysjuoksusuoritusta rajoittaa aerobisten ominaisuuksien lis\u00e4ksi hermo-lihasj\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4n toiminta. Suorituskykyyn lihasty\u00f6t\u00e4 vaativissa asioissa vaikuttaa lis\u00e4ksi se, mit\u00e4 on tehty suoritusta edelt\u00e4vin\u00e4 tunteina ja minuutteina, ja t\u00e4m\u00e4 vaikutus voi olla joko v\u00e4sytt\u00e4v\u00e4 tai suorituskyky\u00e4 edist\u00e4v\u00e4. Teholajien tutkimuksissa onkin onnistuttu osoittamaan, ett\u00e4 oikeanlaisella valmistavalla harjoituksella saadaan parannettua varsinaisen suorituksen tulosta. Useissa kest\u00e4vyysjuoksuun liittyviss\u00e4 tutkimuksissa voimaharjoittelua sis\u00e4lt\u00e4v\u00e4ll\u00e4 harjoitusinterventiolla on saatu kehitetty\u00e4 juoksemisen suorituskykyyn liittyvi\u00e4 tekij\u00f6it\u00e4, esimerkiksi taloudellisuutta. Sen sijaan hermostollista suorituskyky\u00e4 hetkellisesti edist\u00e4vien valmistavien voimaharjoitusten vaikutusta on tutkittu varsin v\u00e4h\u00e4n, varsinkin useiden tuntien aikaikkunalla ennen suoritusta. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tarkoitus on selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, onko edellisen\u00e4 iltap\u00e4iv\u00e4n\u00e4 tehdyll\u00e4 valmistavalla voimaharjoituksella vaikutusta 800 metrin juoksuun liittyviin suorituskyvyn osatekij\u00f6ihin. \nMenetelm\u00e4t. Tutkimukseen osallistui 3 naista ja 8 miest\u00e4, joilla kaikilla oli v\u00e4hint\u00e4\u00e4n kahden vuoden harjoitustausta kest\u00e4vyysjuoksuharjoittelusta. Valmistava voimaharjoitus, sek\u00e4 sen vertailukohta ei-valmistava juoksuharjoitus, suoritettiin iltap\u00e4iv\u00e4ll\u00e4 klo 16\u201318 alkaen. 800 metrin juoksutesti tehtiin klo 9\u201311 alkaen. Palautusaika edellisp\u00e4iv\u00e4n harjoituksen ja testin v\u00e4lill\u00e4 oli keskim\u00e4\u00e4rin 16 tuntia. Valmistavan voimaharjoituksen liikkeet olivat jalkapr\u00e4ssi 3 x 5 toistoa, isometrinen pohjelaite 3 x 5 sekunnin pito, syklinen esikevennyshyppy 3 x 5 ja pudotushyppy 20 senttimetrist\u00e4 3 x 5. Nopeus- ja voimaominaisuuksia suhteutettiin valmistavasta voimaharjoituksesta saatuihin hy\u00f6tyihin. N\u00e4it\u00e4 ominaisuuksia mitattiin lent\u00e4v\u00e4n 20 metrin juoksulla, esikevennyshyppykorkeudella sek\u00e4 jalkapr\u00e4ssin viiden toiston maksimilla. \nTulokset. Valmistavalla voimaharjoituksella ei ollut vaikutusta tutkittavien juoksuaikaan 800 metrill\u00e4 eik\u00e4 vauhdinjakoon. Vauhdinjaolla ei ollut yhteytt\u00e4 my\u00f6sk\u00e4\u00e4n tutkittavien suorituskykyyn 800 metrill\u00e4. Valmistavan voimaharjoituksen j\u00e4lkeen ei havaittu tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4\u00e4 parannusta tuoreena (pre 2 min) eik\u00e4 v\u00e4syneen\u00e4 (post 1 min) tehtyyn esikevennyshyppykorkeuteen. Sen sijaan n\u00e4iden erotus oli PSE:n j\u00e4lkeisen\u00e4 p\u00e4iv\u00e4n\u00e4 suurempi. Mit\u00e4 parempi oli suorituskyky lent\u00e4v\u00e4n 20 metrin juoksussa sek\u00e4 esikevennyshypyss\u00e4, sit\u00e4 enemm\u00e4n lihasarkuutta koettiin valmistavan voimaharjoituksen j\u00e4lkeisess\u00e4 juoksutestiss\u00e4. Mit\u00e4 enemm\u00e4n lihasarkuutta koettiin valmistavan voimaharjoituksen j\u00e4lkeen verrattuna ei-valmistavaan harjoitukseen, sit\u00e4 v\u00e4hemm\u00e4n PSE:st\u00e4 hy\u00f6dyttiin. Nopeus- ja voimaominaisuuksilla ei ollut yhteytt\u00e4 voimaharjoituksesta saatuun hy\u00f6tyyn. \nPohdinta ja johtop\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6kset. In addition to aerobic capacity, endurance performance is also limited by neuromuscular system. Also, the contraction history of muscles affect on performance that is done minutes or hours after the activity. The effect can be either fatiguing or benefitting for performance. In power sport studies it has been shown that with a proper priming exercise, performance advantages have been gained. In many long-distance running studies, performance benefits, for example in running economy, have been achieved with strength training intervention lasting several weeks. Instead, there has not been many studies investigating the effect of priming strength exercise (PSE), and especially not with several hours of recovery time before performance. The purpose of this study is to find out if there is running capacity related benefits of doing PSE on the afternoon, the day before 800-meter running test. \nMethods. Three women and eight men participated for the study. They all had at least two years of experience from endurance running training. Both priming and non-priming exercise were done on the afternoon, the day before running test beginning at 4\u20136 pm. 800 meter running test was done at 9\u201311 am. The recovery time between previous day exercise and the running test was 16 hours on average. The movements in PSE were leg press 3 x 5 repetitions, isometric calf press 3 x 5 seconds, cyclic countermovement jump 3 x 5 and drop jump from 20-centimeter height 3 x 5. Speed and strength properties were compared with benefitting from the PSE. These properties were measured with flying 20-meter run, countermovement jump and leg press 5 repetition maximum. \nResults. PSE had no effect on 800-meter running time or pacing. Pacing had also no effect on 800-meter running time. The countermovement jump, done either before (pre 2 min) or after (post 1 min) the running test, was not affected by PSE. Instead, the difference between these two was bigger after PSE. The better was the capacity in flying 20-meter running and countermovement jump, the more muscle soreness was experienced in the running test, the day after PSE. Also, the more muscle soreness was experienced on the day after PSE, the less benefit was achieved from it. Speed and strength properties had no effect on the advantage that was got from PSE. \nDiscussion and conclusions. PSE did not lead to better capacity in 800-meter running, when the recovery time was 16 hours. The time between PSE and running test might have been too long in relation to demands of it. The movements might not have been the most optimal for running requirements or individual properties of the subjects. The responses gained from PSE, based on the results of experienced muscle soreness, might possibly be bigger with the individuals who have better capacity in tests requiring high power output for a short time. That is why longer recovery time is perhaps needed for them.
