S\u00e4teenseurannan suorituskyvyn esittelemiseksi tutkielman empiirisess\u00e4 osiossa arvioitiin s\u00e4teenseurannan suorituskyky\u00e4 ja siihen vaikuttavia tekij\u00f6it\u00e4 NVIDIA:n Turing-arkkitehtuurin n\u00e4yt\u00f6nohjaimella. Varsinaisia menetelmi\u00e4 ja tapoja laitteistokiihdytteisen s\u00e4teenseurannan hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4miseen ja siihen liittyvi\u00e4 haasteita tarkasteltiin, niin nykyisiss\u00e4 videopeleiss\u00e4 perustuen p\u00e4\u00e4s\u00e4\u00e4nt\u00f6isesti GDC konferenssitallenteisiin, kuin my\u00f6s kirjallisuuskatsauksen avulla. Videopeleiss\u00e4 s\u00e4teenseurannan laskennallinen vaativuus n\u00e4kyy rasteroinnin s\u00e4ilymisen\u00e4 p\u00e4\u00e4tekniikkana render\u00f6inniss\u00e4 s\u00e4teenseurannan t\u00e4ydent\u00e4ess\u00e4 valittujen valon ilmenemismuotojen kuvaamista. As ray tracing is known for its computational complexity, the purpose of this study is to introduce methods and ways to utilize ray tracing in real-time rendering, as well related notable challenges. To introduce the performance of hardware accelerated ray tracing and to study performance affecting factors more closely, empirical study using NVIDIA Turing architecture GPU was conducted. The methods and ways to utilize ray tracing in real-time rendering and related challenges were explored through literature review and through studying ray tracing usage in current video games mainly by reviewing GDC presentations. In reviewed video games the computational complexity of ray tracing was seen as usage of rasterization as primary rendering technique, whereas ray tracing was used for complementing selected effects. In literature review the research around real-time ray tracing was seen as mostly focusing on efficient sampling and denoising techniques, which are introduced in detail in this study.
