Kouluruoka on ollut kaikille lapsille maksutonta jo 75 vuoden ajan. Kaikille tarjottavalla p\u00e4ivitt\u00e4isell\u00e4 aterialla on voitu n\u00e4in edist\u00e4\u00e4 my\u00f6s esimerkiksi kansanterveyteen liittyvi\u00e4 ja kasvatuksellisia tavoitteita. Kouluruokailu onkin s\u00e4\u00e4nn\u00f6llisesti esill\u00e4 uutisissa eri n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmista. Kouluruokailua koskeva uutisointi on kuitenkin viel\u00e4 melko v\u00e4h\u00e4n tutkittu aihe. T\u00e4m\u00e4n pro gradu -tutkielman tarkoituksena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, mit\u00e4 teemoja kouluruokaa k\u00e4sitteleviss\u00e4 uutisartikkeleissa tuodaan esille. \n\nTutkimuksen aineisto koostuu uutisartikkeleista (n=60), jotka on julkaistu vuosien 2018\u20132022 v\u00e4lill\u00e4 Ilta-Sanomien verkkoversiossa. Ajankohta rajattiin viimeiseen viiteen vuoteen, koska tutkimuksessa ollaan kiinnostuneita erityisesti viimeaikaisesta uutisoinnista ja ajankohtaisista ilmi\u00f6ist\u00e4. Aineiston l\u00e4hteeksi valikoitui Ilta-Sanomat, koska se on yksi Suomen luetuimmista uutismedioista. Aineisto analysoitiin laadullisella menetelm\u00e4ll\u00e4 hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4en temaattista sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysi\u00e4. \n\nTemaattisen analyysin tulosten perusteella aineistossa oli havaittavissa seitsem\u00e4n p\u00e4\u00e4teemaa ja seitsem\u00e4ntoista alateemaa. N\u00e4m\u00e4 p\u00e4\u00e4teemat ovat kouluruoka, politiikka ja vaikuttaminen, sosiaaliset n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmat, kest\u00e4v\u00e4 kehitys, kasvatukselliset ja arvon\u00e4k\u00f6kulmat, kouluruokailuymp\u00e4rist\u00f6 sek\u00e4 kulttuuri. Alateemoja ovat ruoan maku, laatu ja terveellisyys, lasten ja nuorten vaikuttamismahdollisuudet, kustannukset, poliittiset kannanotot, sosiaaliset suhteet, trendit, h\u00e4vikki, kasvis- ja l\u00e4hiruoan tarjoaminen, koulun ja kodin yhteisty\u00f6, kouluruoan arvostus, sosiaalinen ilmapiiri, k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n j\u00e4rjestelyt, ruokakulttuurien erot Suomessa sek\u00e4 eri maiden v\u00e4liset erot kouluruokailun j\u00e4rjest\u00e4misess\u00e4. \n\nTulosten mukaan kouluruokailua k\u00e4siteltiin monipuolisesti eri n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmista valitussa uutismediassa. Viimeaikaiset kouluruokailuun vaikuttavat maan sis\u00e4iset ja kansainv\u00e4liset tapahtumat nousivat tyypillisesti uutisten aiheeksi. My\u00f6s suomalaisen j\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4n edut ja tavoitteet kouluruokailun kehitt\u00e4miseksi viel\u00e4 paremmaksi tulivat artikkeleissa s\u00e4\u00e4nn\u00f6llisesti esille. Toisaalta viime vuosina kouluruokailuun vaikuttaneet haasteet ylitt\u00e4v\u00e4t usein uutiskynnyksen ja paljastavat kehitt\u00e4miskohteita. Kaikkiaan l\u00e4pi aineiston v\u00e4littyi n\u00e4kemys, ett\u00e4 kouluruokailun arvostusta Suomessa olisi t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 pyrki\u00e4 nostamaan. Tutkimuksen tuloksia voidaan hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4\u00e4 esimerkiksi kouluruokailun kehitt\u00e4miseen ja kouluruokailun suosion nostamiseen t\u00e4ht\u00e4\u00e4vien jatkotutkimusten suunnittelussa sek\u00e4 opetuksessa.", "language": "fi", "element": "description", "qualifier": "abstract", "schema": "dc"}, {"key": "dc.description.abstract", "value": "In Finland school catering is arranged in a unique way when comparing to other countries. School lunches have been offered for free for all children already for 75 years. Thus, there has been a good opportunity to promote for example public health related and educational goals at the school catering setting. School lunches are frequently presented from different perspectives in news. Still, school lunch themed news is little examined topic. The aim of this master\u2019s thesis is to examine what kind of themes is presented in news articles covering school catering.\n\nThe research material consists of news articles (n=60) which has been published in the web version of Ilta-Sanomat in 2018-2022. The time period was limited to past five years because the main interest of this study was to examine recent news and current phenomena. Ilta-Sanomat was chosen as a source of information because it\u2019s one of the most widely-read news media in Finland. The research material was analyzed with qualitative methods applying thematic analysis. \n\nAccording to the results of thematic analysis, there was seven main themes and seventeen subthemes found in the research material. These main themes are school lunch, politics, social perspectives, sustainable development, educational perspectives, atmosphere, and culture. Subthemes are the taste, quality and healthiness of school lunches, students\u2019 possibilities to influence school lunches, costs, political statements, human relations, food waste, vegetarian and locally produced food, cooperation between school and home, appreciation of school lunches, social and physical atmosphere, differences in food culture in Finland and cultural differences between different countries\u2019 school catering systems.\n\nAccording to the results, school catering was presented from different perspectives in chosen news media. Current local and global events that have influenced school catering were typical news items. The advantages of the Finnish school catering system and the aims to improve the system were also regularly presented in news articles. On the other hand, recent challenges that has influenced school catering usually make headlines and reveal problems. In all, through the entire research material was conveyed the viewpoint that it\u2019s important to try to improve the appreciation of the Finnish school catering system.
