Aikaisemmassa persuasiivisen ekoteknologian tutkimuksessa on keskitytty selvitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n suunnitteluratkaisujen vaikutusta ihmisten ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6my\u00f6nteiseen k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytymiseen, mutta k\u00e4ytt\u00e4jien tarpeet ekoteknologiaa kohtaan ovat j\u00e4\u00e4neet v\u00e4hemm\u00e4lle huomiolle. Tutkielma toteutettiin kehitt\u00e4misty\u00f6n\u00e4 ja se tehtiin toimeksiantona Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n kaupungille osana EU-rahoitteista Circwaste-hanketta. Kehitt\u00e4misty\u00f6n kohteena oli kest\u00e4v\u00e4n el\u00e4m\u00e4ntavan karttapalvelu, jonka tavoitteena oli kannustaa ihmisi\u00e4 toimimaan kest\u00e4v\u00e4n el\u00e4m\u00e4ntavan mukaisesti. Kehitt\u00e4misty\u00f6ss\u00e4 kuvataan karttapalvelun suunnitteluprosessi, jossa hy\u00f6dynnettiin ihmiskeskeisen- ja osallistavan suunnitteluprosessin menetelmi\u00e4. Tutkielmassa selvitettiin, mink\u00e4laisia tarpeita k\u00e4ytt\u00e4jill\u00e4 on ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6my\u00f6nteiseen k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytymiseen kannustavaa karttapalvelua kohtaan. Lis\u00e4ksi tutkielmassa selvitettiin, miten k\u00e4ytt\u00e4j\u00e4t kokevat pilottihankkeen aikana suunnitellun karttapalvelun k\u00e4ytt\u00f6liittym\u00e4n. Tutkielma toteutettiin monimenetelm\u00e4tutkimuksena, jossa yhdisteltiin kyselyit\u00e4 ja osallistavan suunnittelun ideointiharjoituksia. Karttapalvelun k\u00e4ytt\u00f6liittym\u00e4\u00e4 testattiin validoidulla VisAWI-mittarilla ja ikonien ymm\u00e4rrett\u00e4vyystestill\u00e4. Tulokset osoittivat, ett\u00e4 karttapalvelun tulisi tarjota luotettavaa ja helposti ymm\u00e4rrett\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4 tietoa k\u00e4ytt\u00e4jille kest\u00e4vien valintojen helpottamiseksi ja mahdollistaa rahallisia kannustimia kest\u00e4vien valintojen tukemiseksi. K\u00e4ytt\u00e4j\u00e4t kokivat, ett\u00e4 karttapalvelun k\u00e4ytett\u00e4vyys ja hyv\u00e4 k\u00e4ytt\u00e4j\u00e4kokemus ovat suuressa roolissa palvelun suunnittelun onnistumisessa. Palvelun visuaalista ulkoasua ei koettu erityisen miellytt\u00e4v\u00e4ksi tai ep\u00e4miellytt\u00e4v\u00e4ksi. Verrattaessa tuloksia olemassa oleviin vertailuarvoihin, k\u00e4ytt\u00e4jien kokemus karttapalvelun visuaalisesta estetiikasta oli vertailuarvojen keskim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4ist\u00e4 tulosta heikompi. Tutkielman tuloksia voidaan hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4\u00e4 persuasiivisten karttapalveluiden suunnittelussa. Persuasive eco-technology promotes pro-environmental attitudes and behaviour change by utilizing technological pos-sibilities. Previous research on persuasive eco-technologies has focused on finding effective interactions that affect human pro-environmental behaviour, whereas users\u2019 needs towards eco-technologies have not received as much at-tention. This thesis is a research-based development work assigned by the city of Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4 and it is part of a Circwaste project. The focus of the development work is on a digital map application that promotes sustainable lifestyle by bringing together services that contribute to circular economy and sustainable development. This thesis describes the process of designing the map applica-tion by utilizing human-centered and participatory design processes and methods. The aim of this research was to find out the end users\u2019 needs towards the map application that promotes pro-environmental behaviour change. In addition, the aim was to find out how users experience the user interface of the designed application. The research was conducted by using mixed-methods research that combined surveys and participatory design exercises. The user interface evaluation was conducted by using a validated VisAWI questionnaire and icon comprehensibility test. The results showed that to meet the end users\u2019 needs the sustainable map application should provide re-liable and easily comprehensible information about the services and their contributions to sustainable development. The map application should also provide affordable access to sustainable services. The visual design of the user interface was perceived as neutral, and the users did not find the user interface particularly pleasant or unpleasant. When compared to the benchmark values, the visual aesthetics of the user interface was graded lower than the average benchmark value. The results of this thesis can be utilized in designing per-suasive map applications.
