Tutkielman tavoitteena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, onko formatiivisesta arvioinnista hy\u00f6ty\u00e4 oppilaiden oppimisen kannalta. Lis\u00e4ksi tutkielmassa tarkasteltiin yksityiskohtaisemmin formatiivista arviointia liikunnanopetuksessa. Kaiken kaikkiaan tarkoitus oli luoda kokonaiskuva formatiivisen arvioinnin mahdollisuuksista oppilaiden oppimisen tukena.\n\nFormatiivisella arvioinnilla tarkoitetaan arviointia, jonka tarkoituksena on auttaa oppilasta oppimaan. Formatiivinen arviointi ei ole sama asia kuin summatiivinen arviointi, joka puolestaan mittaa oppilaiden osaamista. Formatiivinen arviointi pyrkii tarjoamaan oppilaalle laadullista palautetta oppimisen edist\u00e4miseksi. Prosessiajattelu liittyy formatiiviseen arviointiin eli siin\u00e4 mietit\u00e4\u00e4n oppimistavoitteet, nykyinen osaamistaso ja ne toimet, joita t\u00e4ytyy tehd\u00e4 oppimistavoitteiden saavuttamiseksi. Formatiivisen arvioinnin eri avainstrategioita ovat tavoitetietoisuus, aktiviteettien suunnittelu, palautteenanto, vertaispalaute ja itsearviointi.\n\nFormatiivisen arvioinnin avulla pystyt\u00e4\u00e4n edist\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n oppilaiden osaamista. Erityisesti formatiivisesta arvioinnista hy\u00f6tyv\u00e4t heikoimmin p\u00e4rj\u00e4\u00e4v\u00e4t oppilaat eli oppimiserot kaventuvat eri oppilaiden v\u00e4lill\u00e4. Kaikki formatiivisen arvioinnin eri avainstrategiat ovat t\u00e4rkeit\u00e4 oppilaiden oppimisen edist\u00e4miseksi ja todenn\u00e4k\u00f6ist\u00e4 on, ett\u00e4 oppiminen on tehokkainta, kun kaikkia n\u00e4it\u00e4 eri strategioita hy\u00f6dynnet\u00e4\u00e4n. Formatiivinen arviointi toimii my\u00f6s liikunnanopetuksessa oppilaiden oppimisen tukena. Haasteena kuitenkin on, ett\u00e4 formatiivisen arvioinnin t\u00e4ytt\u00e4 potentiaalia ei hy\u00f6dynnet\u00e4 liikunnanopetuksessa. Liikunnanopettajat tarvitsevat tukea ja t\u00e4ydennyskoulutusta formatiivisen arvioinnin k\u00e4ytt\u00f6mahdollisuuksista kouluissa.
