T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli tarkastella kest\u00e4vyysliikuntaa harrastavien hormonikierron vaikutusta aktiivisuusmittarilla mitattuun energiankulutukseen ja fyysiseen aktiivisuuteen sek\u00e4 harjoitusp\u00e4iv\u00e4kirjoilla ker\u00e4ttyyn harjoittelun kuormitukseen ja toteumaan yhden kuukauden seurannassa. Tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin luonnollisen kuukautiskierron ja hormonaalisen ehk\u00e4isyn vaikutusta mahdollisiin eroihin fyysisess\u00e4 aktiivisuudessa ja harjoittelussa.\nTutkimus on osa Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n yliopiston Naisurheilija -tutkimusta. Tutkimushenkil\u00f6t (n=39, ik\u00e4 25,9\u00b15 v, BMI 22,7\u00b12,5) jakautuivat kolmeen ryhm\u00e4\u00e4n: luonnollisen kuukautiskierron (NHC, n=16) ja hormonaalisen ehk\u00e4isyn ryhmiin (HC, n=23), joita olivat yhdistelm\u00e4ehk\u00e4isyn (CHC, n=10) ja progestiiniehk\u00e4isyn ryhm\u00e4t (PHC, n=13). Hormonikierron vaiheet m\u00e4\u00e4riteltiin ehk\u00e4isyryhm\u00e4n mukaisesti verin\u00e4yteanalyysin ja ovulaatiotestin avulla. P\u00e4ivitt\u00e4ist\u00e4 fyysist\u00e4 aktiivisuutta seurattiin Bodyguard 2 (BG2; Firstbeat Technologies Ltd., Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4, Suomi) laitteen avulla ja harjoittelua harjoitusp\u00e4iv\u00e4kirjojen avulla. Keskim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4inen askelm\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 oli 8222\u00b13333 askelta p\u00e4iv\u00e4ss\u00e4. Harjoittelun m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4ss\u00e4 ja koetussa kuormituksessa ei ollut eroa ryhmien v\u00e4lill\u00e4 (p>0.05). Harjoittelua kertyi 444\u00b1202 minuuttia viikossa ja harjoittelun kuormitus oli 301\u00b1183 sRPE (session-RPE). Tulosmuuttujissa havaittiin merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4 hajontaa tutkimushenkil\u00f6iden v\u00e4lill\u00e4.\nHormonaalinen ehk\u00e4isy ei tutkimuksen perusteella n\u00e4yt\u00e4 vaikuttavan aktiivisesti liikuntaa harrastavien naisten arjen fyysiseen aktiivisuuteen tai harjoittelun m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4n, harjoitteluun k\u00e4ytettyyn aikaan tai koettuun kuormitustasoon. The effects of menstrual cycle and hormonal contraceptives on physical activity and exercise training remains understudied. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the hormonal cycle on physical activity and training on active, endurance trained women. Measurements of energy expenditure and counting of the daily steps were conducted using an activity measurement device and the exercise training intensity, frequency and duration were recorded using self-reported exercise diary. The focus was on the differences between the naturally menstruating group and the groups using hormonal contraceptives.\nThe study was part of the Naisurheilija research project at the University of Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4. The participants n=39 (age 25,9\u00b15 years, BMI 22,7\u00b12,5) were recruited into the groups: non-hormonal contraceptive (NHC, n=16) and hormonal contraceptive (HC, n=23) and further to combined oral hormonal contraceptive (CHC, n=10) and progestin-only contraceptive (PHC, n=13) groups. Participants\u2019 physical activity was monitored using Bodyguard 2 (BG2; Firstbeat Technologies Ltd., Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4, Finland) and training was recorded by self-report exercise diaries. The physical activity measures were collected from three consecutive days in each phase of a cycle and exercise training during one hormonal cycle. The hormonal cycle phases were analyzed according to group from fasting blood samples and ovulation tests.\nThe groups did not differ by the age, sex, body mass index (BMI), fat percentage or maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max). There were no differences in physical activity or exercise training between NHC, CHC or PHC (p>0.05). The physical activity energy expenditure averaged 723\u00b1297 kilocalories per day and 80 MET/h-wk (MET hours per week). The average steps were 8222\u00b13333 per day. Furthermore, there were no differences in the training amount or load between the study groups (p>0.05). The participants were training an average of 444\u00b1202 minutes per week and the training intensity was 301\u00b1183 sRPE (session-RPE).\nBased on the results of the study, the use of hormonal contraceptives does not appear to affect the physical activity or the training intensity, amount, or duration in physically active endurance training women.
