Ne syntyv\u00e4t ep\u00e4t\u00e4ydellisen palamisen seurauksena, esimerkiksi vulkaanisessa toiminnassa sek\u00e4 fossiilisten polttoaineiden poltossa. PAH-yhdisteet ovat biokertyvi\u00e4, pysyvi\u00e4 ja eli\u00f6ille haitallisia yhdisteit\u00e4. Er\u00e4s yleisesti esiintyv\u00e4 karsinogeeninen PAH-yhdiste on fluoranteeni. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa selvitettiin fluoranteenin (10, 20, 40 ja 80 \u00b5g/l) toksisuutta vesikirpuille eri l\u00e4mp\u00f6tiloissa (18, 20 ja 22 \u00b0C). Lis\u00e4\u00e4ntymiskokeessa seurattiin Daphnia magna-lajin kuolleisuutta, lis\u00e4\u00e4ntymist\u00e4 ja kasvua. Vesikirppujen syd\u00e4mensykett\u00e4 tutkittiin kolmella eri koeasetelmalla videoimalla syd\u00e4nt\u00e4, kun vesikirppu altistettiin fluoranteenille. Tulokset osoittivat, ett\u00e4 fluoranteenialtistus vaikutti haitallisesti Daphnia magna -lajin kasvuun lis\u00e4\u00e4ntymiseen ja syd\u00e4mensykkeeseen. They are generated in incomplete combustion, e.g., in volcanic activity and the burning of fossil fuels. PAHs are bioaccumulative, persistent and harmful to living organisms. One common, carcinogenic PAH compound is fluoranthene. This study investigated the toxicity of fluoranthene (10, 20, 40 and 80 \u00b5g/L) to water fleas at different temperatures (18, 20 and 22 \u00b0C). The reproduction test monitored the mortality, reproduction, and growth of the Daphnia magna. The heart rate of water fleas was studied with three different experimental setups by videotaping the heart when the water flea was exposed to fluoranthene. The results showed that exposure to fluoranthene had adverse effects on growth, reproduction, and heart rate of Daphnia magna. As the temperature rose, on average the number of offspring increased, clutch production started earlier, and parent animals reached a larger body size. The biggest differences were generally observed between the 18 and 22 \u00b0C temperature treatments. Fluoranthene exposure increased the heart rate of Daphnia after 15 seconds of exposure, but no effects were observed in chronic exposure, which signals the start of the protective mechanism against harmful substances.
