Optiset mittausmenetelm\u00e4t mahdollistavat ominaisuuksien tarkastelun koskematta kohteeseen. Niiden toiminta perustuu esimerkiksi spektrikuvantajien kohdalla s\u00e4hk\u00f6magneettisen s\u00e4teilyn ominaiseen kykyyn heijastua eri tavoin erilaisista kohteista. Lis\u00e4ksi katsaus esittelee muun muassa biomimiimisi\u00e4 ratkaisuja, jotka tukevat optisia menetelmi\u00e4.\n\n Vesist\u00f6jen kuvantaminen on mahdollista jakaa kolmeen p\u00e4\u00e4luokkaan. Ne ovat satelliittipohjainen, ilmasta k\u00e4sin toteutettava sek\u00e4 vedenalainen kuvantaminen. Satelliittikuvantamisen avulla on mahdollista ker\u00e4t\u00e4 laajaa ja jatkuvaa seurantadataa vesist\u00f6jen pintakerroksista. Ilmasta kuvantamalla on mahdollista kuvantaa rajattujen alueiden pintavesi\u00e4 hetkellisesti. Aiemmista kahdesta kaukokartoitusmenetelm\u00e4st\u00e4 poiketen, on paikallisilla vedenalaisilla menetelmill\u00e4 mahdollista kuvantaa optisesti syvi\u00e4 alueita sek\u00e4 tarkkailla yksitt\u00e4isi\u00e4 eli\u00f6it\u00e4. Mahdollisimman kattavan datakokonaisuuden saamiseksi on k\u00e4ytett\u00e4v\u00e4 menetelmien yhdistelm\u00e4\u00e4. The water bodies include unique ecosystems and on the other hand they support life in other ecosystems. Understanding and protecting the functions of the water ecosystems require research and monitoring of the water bodies. Optical measuring methods enable examining these properties without a need to touch the object. When considering for example spectral imagers, their function is based on the characteristic ability of electromagnetic radiation to reflect in different ways from different objects. In addition the review presents i.a. biomimicry solutions which support optical methods. \n\n Imaging methods of the water bodies are possible to divide into three main classes. The classes are satellite-based, airborne and underwater imaging. With satellite imaging it is possible to collect wide and continuous monitoring data from the surfaces of the water bodies. With airborne imaging it is possible to image limited areas surface waters temporarily. Differing from the previous two remote sensing methods, with local underwater methods it is possible to image optically deep areas and monitor single organisms. In order to get as inclusive data set as possible, a combination of the methods has to be used. It is possible to for example supplement the details of satellite images with more precise airborne and underwater images.
