Urheilijakeskeisen valmennuksen n\u00e4k\u00f6kulma on viime vuosina lis\u00e4\u00e4ntynyt ja valmenta-jilta vaaditaankin lajiosaamisen lis\u00e4ksi yh\u00e4 enemm\u00e4n urheilijan yksil\u00f6llisten tarpeiden huomioimista. Arvot, asenteet ja henkil\u00f6historia vaikuttavat siihen, miten valmentajat lopulta valmennustoimintaa toteuttavat. Valmennuksen vaikuttavien taustatekij\u00f6iden tunnistaminen vaatii kuitenkin laaja-alaista itsetuntemusta, ihmistuntemusta sek\u00e4 hyvi\u00e4 vuorovaikutustaitoja. T\u00e4m\u00e4n ty\u00f6n on tarkoitus selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 pedagogisesta n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta maajoukkuevalmentajien toimintatapoja ja urheilijoiden kokemuksia valmentajien k\u00e4ytt\u00e4mist\u00e4 toimintatavoista.\n\nLaadullinen tutkimus toteutettiin s\u00e4hk\u00f6isen kyselylomakkeen avulla. Tutkimusaineisto analysoitiin aineistol\u00e4ht\u00f6isell\u00e4 sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysilla. Tutkimukseen osallistui nelj\u00e4 maajoukkuevalmentajaa ja 18 maajoukkueurheilijaa. Tutkittavat olivat kahden eri talviolympialajin edustajia. Kyselylomakkeessa ja kirjallisuuskatsauksessa sovellettiin teoriaohjaavasti suomalaisen valmennusosaamisen mallia (H\u00e4m\u00e4l\u00e4inen & Olympiakomitea s.a.).\n\nTulosten mukaan valmentajilla ja urheilijoilla oli jokseenkin toisistaan eri\u00e4vi\u00e4 k\u00e4sityksi\u00e4 maajoukkuetoiminnan k\u00e4yt\u00e4nteist\u00e4. Urheilijoiden keskin\u00e4iset kokemukset maajoukkuetoiminnan tyytyv\u00e4isyyteen ja tyytym\u00e4tt\u00f6myyteen liittyen kohdistuivat tiedonsaantiin ja tavoitteiden vastaavuuteen. Urheilijat kokivat tarvitsevansa enemm\u00e4n toimintaa ohjaavaa palautetta, valmentajien sitoutumista ja urheilijoiden osallistamista toiminnan suunnitteluun. Valmentajat puolestaan kokivat tarjonneensa tilaa urheilijoiden mielipiteille ja n\u00e4kemyksille, joiden kautta urheilijat osallistettiin toiminnan suunnitteluun. Valmentajat pyrkiv\u00e4t verbaalisen viestint\u00e4tapojen kautta ohjaamaan urheilijoiden toimintaa sek\u00e4 kohtaamaan urheilijoita yksil\u00f6llisesti.\n\nMaajoukkuevalmentajien pedagogisten taitojen tunnistaminen antaa mahdollisuuden valmentajien koulutuksen suuntaamiselle. Valmentajien osaamisen kehitt\u00e4minen mahdollistaa urheilijoiden kokonaisvaltaisen urheilijana ja ihmisen\u00e4 kehittymisen sek\u00e4 kansainv\u00e4liseen kilpailuun vastaamisen. Pedagogisen tietoisuuden ja osaamisen laajentaminen osaksi urheiluvalmennusta mahdollistaisi kokonaisvaltaisen urheilijoille suunnatun tuen heid\u00e4n oppimisen kehitt\u00e4miseksi. The athlete-oriented coaching has increased, as a result not only the know-how of the coaching but also ability to response to more individual needs of the athlete is required. The coach`s personal values, attitudes and individual history of the life, have a reflection on coaching. To be able to identify the backgrounds of coaching, a deep self-knowledge, sensitive knowledge of human nature and good interaction skills of the coach are needed. The purpose of this study was to clarify the working methods of the national team coaches. The study also examined how the athletes experienced the pedagogical working methods of their coaches.\n\nThe qualitative research was conducted by using an electronic questionnaire. The research material was analyzed by using qualitative content analysis. Four national team coaches and 18 national team athletes participated in the study. The participants of the study were representatives of two different Winter Olympic sports. The Finnish coaching expertise model (H\u00e4m\u00e4l\u00e4inen & Olympia-komitea s.a.) was applied in the questionnaire and in the literature review.\n\nAccording to the results, coaches and athletes had to some extent different perceptions of the practices of national team activities. The athletes felt both satisfaction and dissatisfaction on how the information was shared and how the coaching met goals. The athletes required more feedback, more commitment from coaches and more athletes participation in the planning of the activities. From the coaches\u2019 point of view, they saw that they had provided athletes a possibility to influence in planning by asking their opinions and views. Using different kind of verbal communications such as asking, encouraging, and supporting, was a coaching method to guide athletes\u2019 activities and meet them individually.\n\nBy identifying the pedagogical skills of the national team coaches, enables to orientate the training of coaches. Improving the competence of the national team coaches enables the athletes to grow up and develop as athletes, as if human beings. It also has an influence on international success in competitions. By extending pedagogical knowledge and competence of the national team coaches, athletes support, learning and developing would increase. In addition, the pedagogical point of view could improve the well-being of high-level sport athletes.
