Aikaisemmat tutkimukset ovat todenneet tunnetaitojen tukevan oppimista monella eri \noppimisen osa-alueella. Tunne\u00e4lyn ja tunnetaitojen tarkastelu yhteydess\u00e4 kielten opettajiin on suhteellisen uusi ilmi\u00f6, \nmink\u00e4 takia valitsin aiheen tutkimukselleni.\nPro gradu -tutkielmani tavoitteena oli mitata Suomessa ty\u00f6skentelevien englannin opettajien tunne\u00e4ly\u00e4 k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en \nTEIQue-SF mittaria, sek\u00e4 verrata i\u00e4n ja opetuskokemuksen yhteytt\u00e4 tunne\u00e4lyyn. Tutkielma tarkastelee my\u00f6s englannin opettajien asenteita tunnetaitoja kohtaan, sek\u00e4 tutkii k\u00e4yt\u00e4nteit\u00e4, joilla tunnetaitoja on opetettu englannin oppitunneilla. TEIQue-SF mittarilla saaduista tunne\u00e4lypisteist\u00e4 laskettiin IBM SPSS-ohjelmaa k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en Cronbachin \nalpha, jolla analysoitiin pisteiden luotettavuutta. Lis\u00e4ksi tunne\u00e4lypisteit\u00e4 verrattiin ik\u00e4\u00e4n ja opetuskokemukseen suorittamalla IBM SPSS-ohjelmalla ei-parametrinen Kruskal-Wallis testi. Asenteita ja k\u00e4yt\u00e4nteit\u00e4 tarkastelevat Likert-kysymykset analysoitiin laskemalla vastauksien keskiarvot ja mediaani. Lis\u00e4ksi asenteita ja k\u00e4yt\u00e4nteit\u00e4 laajemmin \ntutkineet avokysymykset analysoitiin laadullisen sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysin keinoin.\nTutkimus toteutettiin kyselytutkimuksena. Tutkimuksen tulokset osoittivat, ett\u00e4 englannin opettajilla on korkea tunne\u00e4ly. Ik\u00e4 tai opetuskokemus eiv\u00e4t vaikuttaneet merkitsev\u00e4sti tunne\u00e4lyyn. Englannin opettajilla on positiivinen \nasenne tunnetaitoja kohtaan ja suurin osa kuvaili niit\u00e4 t\u00e4rkeiksi. Osa vastaajista painotti tunnetaitojen t\u00e4rkeytt\u00e4 tietyille ik\u00e4ryhmille, kuten lapsille tai teini-ik\u00e4isille. Englannin opettajilla oli monipuolisia k\u00e4yt\u00e4nteit\u00e4 opettaa tunnetaitoja, ja jokainen vastaaja osasi keksi\u00e4 tapoja kuinka tunnetaitoja voisi opettaa. Tunnetaitoja opetettiin osana kieltenopetusta sek\u00e4 sen ulkopuolelta.
