T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli osaltaan t\u00e4ydent\u00e4\u00e4 matematiikan oppimisvaikeuksien tutkimusta aikuisuudessa. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin aikuisaineistolla matematiikan oppimisvaikeuden jatkuvuutta lapsuudesta aikuisuuteen, sen yhteytt\u00e4 ty\u00f6tt\u00f6myyteen sek\u00e4 matematiikan oppimisvaikeuteen yhteydess\u00e4 olevia kognitiivisia tekij\u00f6it\u00e4. Kognitiivisina tekij\u00f6in\u00e4 tarkasteltiin kielellist\u00e4 ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4mist\u00e4, visuaalista p\u00e4\u00e4ttely\u00e4, ty\u00f6muistia ja prosessointinopeutta. Tutkimuksen aineisto koostui tutkimusryhm\u00e4st\u00e4 (n=22), joilla on lapsena todettu neuropsykologisissa tutkimuksissa matematiikan oppimisvaikeus, sek\u00e4 v\u00e4est\u00f6pohjaisesta kontrolliryhm\u00e4st\u00e4 (n=16). Osallistujista 20 oli naisia ja 18 miehi\u00e4, he olivat aineiston keruuhetkell\u00e4 27\u201339 \u2013vuotiaita ja puhuivat suomea \u00e4idinkielen\u00e4\u00e4n. Tutkimusryhm\u00e4 jaettiin aikuisuuden matematiikassa suoriutumisen perusteella niihin, joilla matematiikan oppimisvaikeus jatkuu (MD jatkuu -ryhm\u00e4) ja niihin, joilla se ei jatku (MD ei jatku \u2013ryhm\u00e4). Tutkimuskysymyksiin vastattiin frekvenssitaulukon, ristiintaulukoinnin ja Fisherin tarkan testin, Mann Whitneyn U \u2013testin sek\u00e4 Kruskal Wallis \u2013testin avulla. Tutkimuksen tulokset osoittivat, ett\u00e4 matematiikan oppimisvaikeus jatkui huomattavalla osalla (59,09 %) lapsuudesta aikuisuuteen. Lapsena todettu matematiikan oppimisvaikeus ja sen jatkuminen aikuisuuteen eiv\u00e4t kumpikaan olleet yhteydess\u00e4 ty\u00f6tt\u00f6myyteen aikuisuudessa. Kognitiivisia tekij\u00f6it\u00e4 tarkasteltaessa tulokset osoittivat, ett\u00e4 MD jatkuu -ryhm\u00e4 oli kontrolliryhm\u00e4\u00e4 tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4sti heikompi kaikilla tarkastelluilla kognition osa-alueilla. MD ei jatku -ryhm\u00e4 oli puolestaan kontrolliryhm\u00e4\u00e4 tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4sti heikompi kielellisen ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4misen, visuaalisen p\u00e4\u00e4ttelyn ja ty\u00f6muistin osalta. N\u00e4m\u00e4 kognitiiviset vaikeudet olisi t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 huomioida aikuisten koulutuksessa, ty\u00f6llisyyspalveluissa ja ty\u00f6paikoilla. MD jatkuu- ja MD ei jatku -ryhm\u00e4t eiv\u00e4t eronneet toisistaan mink\u00e4\u00e4n tarkastellun kognitiivisen osa-alueen suhteen.
