Aikaisemmissa tutkimuksissa on havaittu naisten kokevan miehi\u00e4 enemm\u00e4n stressi\u00e4 (H\u00f6gberg 2021; Anniko ym. 2018) ja koulu-uupumusta (THL 2019; Salmela-Aro ym. 2017; Walburg 2014) Fyysisell\u00e4 aktiivisuudella on esitetty olevan yhteys v\u00e4h\u00e4isemp\u00e4\u00e4n stressin (esim. Barney ym. 2017; Partonen 2016; Moljord ym. 2011) ja uupumuksen kokemiseen (esim. Cheung & Li 2019; Naczenski ym. 2017).\nTutkimuksen kohteena olivat Manner-Suomen suomenkielisten lukioiden opiskelijat. Jokaisesta maakunnasta arvottiin kolme lukiota, joihin otettiin yhteytt\u00e4 s\u00e4hk\u00f6postitse tutkimukseen osallistumista varten. Aineistonkeruu tapahtui kyselylomakkeella joulukuun 2020 ja helmikuun 2021 v\u00e4lill\u00e4. Tutkimukseen osallistui 601 opiskelijaa kuudesta lukiosta (miehet n=175, naiset n=407 ja muut n=19). Koulu-uupumusta mitattiin SBI-9 mittarilla (Salmela-Aro ym. 2009) ja opinnoista koettua stressi\u00e4 ASQ-mittarilla (Byrne & Mazanov 2002). Kyselyaineiston analysointiin k\u00e4ytettiin riippumattomien otosten T-testi\u00e4, Mann-Whitneyn U-testi\u00e4, Spearmanin korrelaatiotesti\u00e4 ja yksisuuntaista varianssianalyysia. \nVajaa kolmannes lukiolaisista ilmoitti olleensa edellisen viikon aikana fyysisesti aktiivinen vain 0\u20132 p\u00e4iv\u00e4n\u00e4 ja noin 14 prosenttia liikkuvansa tavallisen viikon aikana alle 2 tuntia. Suositusten mukaisesti, eli v\u00e4hint\u00e4\u00e4n tunnin p\u00e4ivitt\u00e4in, edellisell\u00e4 viikolla oli liikkunut noin 10 prosenttia. Sukupuolten v\u00e4lill\u00e4 ei ollut eroja fyysisess\u00e4 aktiivisuudessa. Ensimm\u00e4isen vuosikurssin opiskelijat olivat edellisell\u00e4 viikolla liikkuneet kolmannen tai ylemm\u00e4n vuosikurssin opiskelijoita enemm\u00e4n. V\u00e4h\u00e4n liikkuneiden osuus oli suurempi kuin useissa aiemmissa tutkimuksissa (ks. Kokko ym. 2021; THL 2019; Vekara 2018). \nLukiolaiset raportoivat paljon koulu-uupumusta ja opinnoista koettua stressi\u00e4. Koulu-uupumuksen raja-arvojen pistem\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4t (Salmela-Aro 2009) olivat aiempia tutkimuksia korkeampia. Miehet kokivat naisia ja muunsukupuolisia v\u00e4hemm\u00e4n koulu-uupumusta ja stressi\u00e4. Muunsukupuoliset olivat naisia huonovointisempia. Ensimm\u00e4isen vuosikurssin opiskelijat kokivat v\u00e4hemm\u00e4n koulu-uupumusta kuin ylempien vuosikurssien opiskelijat ja v\u00e4hemm\u00e4n stressi\u00e4 opinnoista kuin toisen vuosikurssin opiskelijat. V\u00e4hiten aktiiviset opiskelijat kokivat eniten koulu-uupumusta ja stressi\u00e4 opinnoista. \nKohtuullinen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 fyysist\u00e4 aktiivisuutta vaikuttaisi suojaavan opiskelijoita koulu-uupumukselta ja koetulta stressilt\u00e4. Opiskelijoiden hyvinvoinnin parantamiseksi on t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 tukea heid\u00e4n voimavarojaan ja v\u00e4hent\u00e4\u00e4 heihin kohdistuvia vaatimuksia (Salmela-Aro & Hietaj\u00e4rvi 2019). Koronapandemia saattoi vaikuttaa lukiolaisten fyysiseen aktiivisuuteen ja huonovointisuuteen. Jatkotutkimuksissa tulisi kiinnitt\u00e4\u00e4 huomiota esimerkiksi konkreettisiin koulu-uupumusta ja koettua stressi\u00e4 v\u00e4hent\u00e4vien menetelmien tutkimiseen.", "language": "fi", "element": "description", "qualifier": "abstract", "schema": "dc"}, {"key": "dc.description.abstract", "value": "The aim of this thesis was to examine the physical activity, perceived stress from studies and school burnout of upper secondary school students as well as their variances and associations between gender, school year, and physical activity groups. Earlier studies have identified that women experience more stress (H\u00f6gberg 2021; Anniko et al. 2018) and school burnout (THL 2019; Salmela-Aro et al. 2017; Walburg 2014) than men. Physical activity has been suggested to be associated with diminished experiences of stress (e.g. Barney et al. 2017; Partonen 2016; Moljord et al. 2011) and burnout (e.g. Cheung & Li 2019; Naczenski et al. 2017). \nThis study\u2019s target population was the Finnish-speaking upper secondary school students of mainland Finland. Three upper secondary schools were drawn from each Finnish regional province and the schools were contacted via email. The data was collected with an electronic questionnaire between December 2020 and February 2021. 601 students from six different upper secondary schools participated in the study (men n=175, women n=407, other n=19). School burnout was measured with the SBI-9 (Salmela-Aro et al. 2009) and the perceived stress from studies with the ASQ (Byrne & Mazanov 2002). The data was analyzed using the independent samples T-test, Mann-Whitney U-test, Spearman correlation test and the one-way analysis of variance. \nA little under a third of the students reported having been physically active during 0\u20132 days during the preceding week. About 14 percent of the students reported being physically active for less than 2 hours during a typical week. About 10 percent had been physically active according to the PA recommendations (minimum of 1h per day) during the preceding week. There were no statistically significant differences between gender groups in physical activity. First-year students were more physically active during the preceding week than third- or higher year students. The percentage of students with a low physical activity level was higher than in many previous studies (Kokko et al. 2021; THL 2019; Vekara 2018). \nThe students reported a lot of school burnout and perceived stress from studies. The threshold point values (Salmela-Aro 2009) of school burnout were higher than in previous studies. Men experienced less school burnout and stress than women and non-binary students. Non-binary students were more stressed and burnt out than women. First-year students experienced less school burnout than upper-year students and less stress from studies than second-year students. The least physically active students got the most points in the measures of school burnout and perceived stress from studies. \nA moderate amount of physical activity seems to protect the students from school burnout and perceived stress. To improve the students\u2019 well-being, it is vital to improve their resources and decrease the expectations towards them (Salmela-Aro & Hietaj\u00e4rvi 2019) The COVID-19 pandemic may have affected the physical activity and the indisposition of the upper secondary school students.
