Pitk\u00e4aikaisen paikallaanolon vaikutuksia terveyteen on tutkittu laajasti. Pitk\u00e4aikainen paikallaanolo on yhteydess\u00e4 heikkoon lihasvoimaan. T\u00e4m\u00e4n ty\u00f6n tarkoituksena on tutkia, onko ty\u00f6n fyysisell\u00e4 kuormittavuudella yhteys keski-ik\u00e4isten naisten kehonkoostumukseen. Lis\u00e4ksi tarkastellaan, onko lihasvoimaharjoittelulla suojaava yhteys keski-ik\u00e4isten istumaty\u00f6t\u00e4 tekevien naisten kehonkoostumukseen. \nTutkimuksessa on k\u00e4ytetty Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n yliopiston liikuntatieteellisen tiedekunnan Gerontologian tutkimuskeskuksessa toteutetun ERMA-tutkimuksen (Estrogenic Regulation of Muscle Apoptosis) aineistoa. Osallistujat olivat 47\u201355-vuotiaita naisia. Tutkittavat jaettiin kahteen ryhm\u00e4\u00e4n ty\u00f6n fyysisen kuormittavuuden mukaan: p\u00e4\u00e4asiassa istumaty\u00f6, joka vaatii vain hyvin v\u00e4h\u00e4n fyysist\u00e4 aktiivisuutta (n = 535) ja fyysinen ty\u00f6, joka sis\u00e4lt\u00e4\u00e4 seisomista ja k\u00e4vely\u00e4 tai seisomisen ja k\u00e4velemisen lis\u00e4ksi nostamista ja kantamista tai on raskasta fyysist\u00e4 ty\u00f6t\u00e4 (n = 474). Osallistujat jaettiin kolmeen ryhm\u00e4\u00e4n kuntosaliharjoittelun tai siihen verrattavissa olevan lihasvoimaharjoittelun m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4n ja kuormittavuuden mukaan. Tutkittavien kehonkoostumus mitattiin bioimpedanssimittauksella. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 ty\u00f6ss\u00e4 mittaustuloksista analysoitiin kehon rasvaprosentti, viskeraalirasva sek\u00e4 luustolihasmassa. Ryhmien v\u00e4lisi\u00e4 kehonkoostumuksen keskiarvoeroja analysoitiin riippumattomien otosten t-testill\u00e4. Ty\u00f6n tyypin ja lihasvoimaharjoittelun m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4n yhteytt\u00e4 kehonkoostumukseen analysoitiin kaksisuuntaisella varianssianalyysill\u00e4.\nTy\u00f6n fyysisell\u00e4 kuormittavuudella ei ole tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4\u00e4 yhteytt\u00e4 kehonkoostumukseen keski-ik\u00e4isill\u00e4 naisilla. Liikkumisen suositusten mukaisella lihasvoimaharjoittelulla on tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4 yhteys keski-ik\u00e4isten naisten kehonkoostumukseen ty\u00f6n tyypist\u00e4 riippumatta. Suositusten mukainen lihasvoimaharjoittelu oli tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4sti yhteydess\u00e4 matalampaan rasvaprosenttiin (p = 0,002), v\u00e4h\u00e4isemp\u00e4\u00e4n viskeraalirasvan m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4n (p = 0,025) ja korkeampaan luustolihasmassaan (p = 0,002). The effects of sedentary behaviour in health have been extensively researched. Sedentary behaviour is associated with weak muscle strength. The purpose of this study was to examine whether the physical workload has an association for the body composition of middle-aged women. In addition, it was examined whether muscle strength training according to the Finnish national recommendations of activity had a protective association for the body composition of middle-aged women doing sedentary work. \n\nThis study has used the data from the Estrogenic Regulation of Muscle Apoptosis (ERMA) study. The subjects were women aged 47 to 55. The subjects were divided into two groups according to the physical workload: mainly sedentary work, which requires only very little physical activity (n = 535) and physical work that includes standing and walking or lifting and carrying in addition to standing and walking or is heavy physical work (n = 474). Participants were divided into three groups according to the amount of gym training or comparable muscle strength training. The body composition of the subjects was measured by bioimpedance measurement. In this study, based on the results obtained by bioimpedance measurement, body fat percentage, visceral fat, and skeletal muscle mass were analysed. The mean differences of variables measuring body composition between groups were analysed using a t-test of independent samples. The association between the physical workload and the amount of muscular strength training to the body composition was analysed using a two-way variance analysis.\n\nThe physical workload has no statistically significant association with body composition in middle-aged women. Muscle strength training under the recommendations has a statistically significant association with the body composition of middle-aged women, regardless of the physical workload. Muscle strength training as recommended was statistically significantly associated with lower body fat percentage (p = 0.002), lower visceral fat (p = 0.025) and higher skeletal muscle mass (p = 0.002).
