Ymmärtääksemme paremmin jälkimmäistä, suoritettiin tässä tutkielmassa tapaustutkimus, jossa käsitteellinen luurankomalli rakennettiin kohdeorganisaatiolle. Tämä tehtiin istunnoissa, jotka pitivät sisällään puolistrukturoidun haastattelun ja työpajan. Nämä pidettiin finanssialaan kuuluvassa organisaatiossa heidän kuuden kokonaisarkkitehtuuritiiminsä kuuluvan asiantuntijan kanssa. Ensiksi haastatteluiden avulla pyrittiin löytämään arkkitehtuurikonseptit. Samaisessa istunnossa, jossa haastattelut olivat, pidettiin asiantuntijan kanssa työpaja, jossa rakennettiin haastateltavan kanssa käsitteellinen malli käyttäen hänen tunnistamiaan konsepteja. Yhteensä viisi käsitteellistä mallia rakennettiin. Näiden pohjalta tämän tutkielman tutkija loi yhteen vetävän mallin, jota voitaisiin käyttää pohjana tarkemmalla keskustelulle organisaatiossa ja lopuksi ottaa käyttöön. Tapaustutkimus antoi tärkeää informaatiota organisaatiokohtaisen konseptimallin kehittämisen prosessista ja mallinnus nähtiin asiantuntijoiden toimesta tärkeänä työvälineenä kommunikoinnin edistämisessä eri organisaation sidosryhmien välillä. Enterprise architecture is a construction that tries to align business and IT. Enterprise architecture modeling is a practice that supports that construction. Therefore, understanding what enterprise architecture reference models and modeling notations there are, is important. This thesis covers the Zachman Framework, TOGAF, FEAF and JHS179 frameworks. However, fully applying those frameworks into practice is difficult due to the complexity of enterprise architecture and therefore, a light-weighted or organizational specific frame-work may be needed. To understand the latter, case research was conducted where a skeleton of a conceptual model was built for the target organization. This was done in a series of meetings which consisted of a semi-structured interview and a workshop. These were held in a financial institution and with their six experts in the enterprise architecture team. First, a set of interviews were held to identify the architectural concepts. Within that same meeting where the interviews were held, a conceptual model was built with the expert using the concept that the expert identified. A total of five conceptual models were built. These models were then summarized by this thesis’ researcher as a conclusive conceptual model which could be used as a skeleton for further discussion in the organization and in the end, put into practice. The case research gave valuable insight on the development process of an organization specific conceptual model and the modeling as a practice was seen as a valuable tool by the experts to enable communication between different stakeholders.
