Aluksi perehdyttiin erilaisiin happamiin, alkalisiin, hydrotermisiin, oksidatiivisiin ja organosolv -esik\u00e4sittelymenetelmiin, joiden lis\u00e4ksi tutustuttiin ioninesteisiin sek\u00e4 syv\u00e4eutektisiin liuottimiin. My\u00f6hemmin tarkasteltiin erilaisia alkalisia ja organosolv -kuidutusprosesseja. Tutkielman kokeellisessa osuudessa analysoitiin vaahteran erilaisissa olosuhteissa toteutettujen alkali\u2013vetyperoksidiesik\u00e4sittelyjen (AHP-esik.) hydrolysaattien ja lis\u00e4ksi niiden j\u00e4lkeisten soodakeittojen mustalipeiden kemialliset koostumukset (ligniinipitoisuus, ligniinien painokeskim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4inen moolimassa sek\u00e4 haihtuvien happojen ja hydroksihappojen pitoisuus). Vaahteran AHP-esik\u00e4sittelyt oli toteutettu joko 2,5 %:n tai 5,0 %:n H2O2-m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4ll\u00e4, 4 %:n, 6 %:n tai 8 %:n NaOH annoksella, 50 \u2103:n tai 80 \u2103:n l\u00e4mp\u00f6tilassa ja 60:n tai 120 minuutin k\u00e4sittelyajalla. Referenssiesik\u00e4sittelyt oli toteutettu ilman H2O2:a. Soodakeitot oli toteutettu 20 %:n NaOH annoksella ja 170 \u2103:n l\u00e4mp\u00f6tilassa, keittoajan ollessa 100 minuuttia. Erilaisten AHP-esik\u00e4sittelyjen havaittiin vaikuttavan vaihtelevin tavoin ja merkityksin hydrolysaattien kemialliseen koostumukseen, jonka havaittiin yleisesti koostuvan p\u00e4\u00e4osin hapoista, ligniinipitoisuuden j\u00e4\u00e4dess\u00e4 verrattain v\u00e4h\u00e4iseksi. Ankarampien AHP-esik\u00e4sittelyolosuhteiden huomattiin l\u00e4hes poikkeuksetta kasvattavan sek\u00e4 ligniinipitoisuutta ett\u00e4 happojen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4 hydrolysaatissa. Muurahaishappopitoisuutta ja ligniinin painokeskim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4ist\u00e4 moolimassaa lukuunottamatta, merkitt\u00e4vi\u00e4 eroja eri AHP- ja referenssiesik\u00e4sittelyjen v\u00e4lill\u00e4 ei kuitenkaan havaittu. Mustalipe\u00e4n kemiallisen koostumuksen havaittiin yleisesti ottaen riippuvan merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti soodakeittoa edelt\u00e4v\u00e4st\u00e4 esik\u00e4sittelyst\u00e4. Referenssiesik\u00e4sittelyihin verrattuna, haihtuvien happojen pitoisuus ja ligniinin painokeskim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4inen moolimassa poislukien, soodakeittoa edelt\u00e4vien AHP-esik\u00e4sittelyjen huomattiin vaikuttavan vaihtelevasti mustalipe\u00e4n kemialliseen koostumukseen esik\u00e4sittelyolosuhteista riippuen.
