Tutkielmassa raja niin sanotun perinteisen ja nykyaikaisen henkilöauton välille on vedetty niissä olevien lukitusjärjestelmien perusteella. Nykyaikaiseksi ajoneuvoksi tutkielmassa puhutaan ajoneuvoja, joissa on niin sanottu PKES-lukitusjärjestelmä (Passive Keyless Entry & Start), eli niin sanottu Keyless Go-järjestelmä. Perinteiseksi luetaan taas ajoneuvo, jossa on RKE-lukitusjärjestelmä (Remote Keyless Entry), eli järjestelmä, jolla ajoneuvon ovet pystytään avaamaan avaimella kaukaa autosta. Käsitteiden esittelyn lomassa esitellään myös niissä olevia haavoittuvuuksia sekä niihin kohdistuvia hyökkäystapoja. Käsitteiden esittelyn jälkeen tutkielmassa tehdään vertailua perinteisten ja nykyaikaisten henkilöautojen varkaudenestojärjestelmien välillä, riskien arvioinnin näkökulmasta. Samassa kappaleessa esitellään myös tutkielman tulokset ja vastaus tutkimuskysymykseen ”Ovatko nykyaikaisten henkilöautojen lukitusjärjestelmät turvallisempia kuin perinteisten henkilöautojen?”. Tutkielmassa tultiin tulokseen, että perinteisten henkilöautojen varkaudenestojärjestelmät ovat parempia, riskien arvioinnin näkökulmasta. Tutkielman lopussa pohditaan tutkielman tuloksia sekä tutkielmassa olleita rajoitteita, ja esimerkiksi sitä miten tutkielmassa käytettyä viitekehystä tulisi käyttää. Tämän lisäksi pohditaan myös, miten ajoneuvojen turvallisuutta tulisi tutkia jatkossa. This bachelor’s thesis compares the theft prevention systems of traditional and modern passenger cars and assesses the risks involved. Initially, the thesis introduces systems found in older passenger cars, followed by systems found in newer passenger cars. In the thesis, the line between the so-called traditional and modern passenger cars has been drawn on the basis of the locking systems in them. Vehicles with a so-called PKES (Passive Keyless Entry & Start) system, or the so-called Keyless Go system, are considered to be modern. A traditional passenger car, on the other hand, is a car with an RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) system, a system that allows the vehicle's doors to be opened with a key away from the car. During the presentation of the concepts, the vulnerabilities and some attack methods are also presented. After the introduction of the concepts, the thesis makes a comparison between traditional and modern anti-theft systems for passenger cars, from the perspective of risk assessment. The same section also presents the results of the thesis and the answer to the research question “Are the locking systems of modern passenger cars safer than those of traditional passenger cars?”. The study concluded that anti-theft systems for traditional passenger cars are better from a risk assessment perspective. At the end of the thesis, the results of the thesis and the limitations in the thesis are discussed, for example, how the framework used in the thesis should be used. In addition to this, how the safety of vehicles should be studied in the future is also discussed.
