Identiteetit eiv\u00e4t voi esiinty\u00e4 ilman kielt\u00e4, ja t\u00e4st\u00e4 syyst\u00e4 t\u00e4m\u00e4 tutkielma yhdist\u00e4\u00e4 kielen ja identiteetin yhdeksi tutkimuksen kohteeksi: kieli-identiteetiksi. Suomessa kieli-identiteettej\u00e4 on t\u00e4rke\u00e4 tutkia monikielisyyden n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta, sill\u00e4 Suomi on virallisesti kaksikielinen maa, ja jokaisen oppilaan tulee opiskella suomen kielen lis\u00e4ksi toista kotimaista kielt\u00e4, ruotsia. T\u00e4m\u00e4n lis\u00e4ksi jokaisen lapsen tulee opetella v\u00e4hint\u00e4\u00e4n yht\u00e4 vierasta kielt\u00e4 perusopetuksen aikana. Suurin osa lapsista valitsee tai joutuu valitsemaan englannin. Kansallinen kyselytutkimus englannin kielest\u00e4 Suomessa toteutettiin vuonna 2007 ja sen tulokset julkaistiin 2009 (Lepp\u00e4nen et. al, 2009). Tutkimuksen mukaan huomattavan suuri osa vastaajista koki itsens\u00e4 yksikieliseksi Suomen monikielisyydest\u00e4 huolimatta. Tutkimus nosti esiin kysymyksen suomalaisten mahdollisesta asenteenmuutoksesta tulevaisuudessa kaikkien sukupolvien opiskeltua englantia. Siisp\u00e4 kieli-identiteettien lis\u00e4ksi t\u00e4m\u00e4 tutkimus pyrkii tarjoamaan lis\u00e4\u00e4 tietoa my\u00f6s yksi-, kaksi- ja monikieliseksi identifioitumisen kysymykseen.\n\nT\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa k\u00e4sitell\u00e4\u00e4n suomalaisessa yliopistossa englantia p\u00e4\u00e4aineenaan opiskelevien opiskelijoiden kieli-identiteettej\u00e4. Kieli-identiteetit m\u00e4\u00e4ritell\u00e4\u00e4n oman itsen ja kielen v\u00e4lisen\u00e4 suhteena, jonka keski\u00f6ss\u00e4 ovat p\u00e4tevyys, periytyvyys ja kieleen liittyv\u00e4t asenteet sek\u00e4 tunteet. Kieli-identiteetit n\u00e4hd\u00e4\u00e4n moninaisina, sirpaloituneina, kontekstisidonnaisina sek\u00e4 alati muuttuvina. \n\nT\u00e4m\u00e4 tutkielma kartoittaa millaisia kieli-identiteettej\u00e4 nelj\u00e4 englannin kielt\u00e4 p\u00e4\u00e4aineenaan opiskelevaa opiskelijaa rakentavat haastattelun aikana. Aineistoksi ker\u00e4ttiin lokakuussa 2021 nelj\u00e4 yksil\u00f6haastattelua, joissa haastateltavilta kysyttiin muun muassa mit\u00e4 kieli\u00e4 he osasivat, millaisia tunteita he liittiv\u00e4t kielten k\u00e4ytt\u00e4miseen ja kokevatko he itsens\u00e4 yksi-, kaksi- vai monikieliseksi. Aineisto analysoitiin diskursiivisella menetelm\u00e4ll\u00e4 etsien yhteisi\u00e4 teemoja. Tulosten perusteella haastateltavilla on vahva kieli-identiteetti englannin kieleen liittyen p\u00e4tevyyden n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta: opiskelijat n\u00e4kiv\u00e4t oman kielitaitonsa vahvana ja jopa natiivitasoisena.
