Toisena tavoitteena oli kartoittaa ja tutustua mitä valmiita kaupallisia LoRaWAN verkkoalustoja löytyy ja onko olemassa vastaavia avoimeen lähdekoodiin pohjautuvia järjestelmiä. Kolmantena tavoitteena oli toteuttaa sensorimittausta varten yksityinen LoRaWAN verkko käyttäen avoimen lähdekoodin verkkoalustaa ja saada kokemusta sensoriverkon rakentamista sekä ylläpidosta. Mittaus kohteeksi valittiin LED-ulkonäytto, kohteesta oli tarve lukea kumulatiivista sähköenergian kulutustietoa etänä ja esittää tämä web pohjaisessa järjestelmässä. Tutkimuksen aikana havaittiin, että LoRaWAN on varsin kustannustehokas yksinkertaisen verkkoarkkitehtuurinsa ansiosta ja soveltuu hyvin energiamittausta tai vastaavia sensorimittauksia varten, joihin langallinen mittaus järjestelmä on kallis vaihtoehto tai vaikea toteuttaa langallisesti. Tutkimuksissa selvisi myös, että LoRaWAN soveltuu myös pitkän matkan päässä oleviin sensorimittalaiteiden datan keräämiseen ja sillä on mahdollista korvata tietyissä tilanteissa perinteiset langattomat sensoriverkot ja luoda maantiellisesti laaja verkko. This master's thesis had several goals, the main goal was to get to know LoRaWAN technology in more depth and see how it would be suitable for remote reading of sensor measurement. The purpose of the dissertation was also to consider how the technology could be utilized for similar measurements in the future. The purpose of this master's thesis was also to consider how the technology could be used for similar measurements in the future. Second goal was to survey and find out what commercial LoRaWAN IoT platforms can be found and whether there are similar open source based systems. The third goal was to implement a private LoRaWAN network using an open source IoT platform and get more experience in the construction and maintenance of a wireless sensor network.The LED outdoor display was chosen as the target to be measured because the cumulative electrical energy consumption data of the display had to be read remotely and presented in a web-based system. During the study, it was found that LoRaWAN is quite cost-effective due to its simple network architecture and is well suited for energy measurement or similar sensor measurements for which a wired measurement system is an expensive alternative or difficult to implement wired. Studies have also shown that LoRaWAN is also suitable for long-distance sensor data collection and has the potential to replace traditional wireless sensor networks and create a geographically wide network in certain situations.
