Samaan aikaan koulu n\u00e4hd\u00e4\u00e4n t\u00e4rke\u00e4n\u00e4 sosiaalisena ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n\u00e4, jossa nuori voi kokea saavansa sosiaalista tukea. Sosiaalisen tuen vaikutusta nuoren terveyden lukutaitoon on tutkittu hyvin v\u00e4h\u00e4n kouluymp\u00e4rist\u00f6ss\u00e4. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 opettajan ja luokkakavereiden tarjoaman sosiaalisen tuen sek\u00e4 terveyden lukutaidon v\u00e4list\u00e4 yhteytt\u00e4 nuorten keskuudessa. \n\nTutkimusaineisto koostuu vuoden 2014 WHO-Koululaistutkimuksen osa-aineistosta, joka on ker\u00e4tty 7.- (n=1918) ja 9.-luokkalaisilta (n=1935) suomalaisnuorilta. Aineisto analysoitiin IBM SPSS Statistics 26 -ohjelmalla ja analyysimenetelmin\u00e4 olivat ristiintaulukointi, khiin neli\u00f6 (\u03c72) -testi sek\u00e4 bin\u00e4\u00e4rinen logistinen regressioanalyysi. \n\nTerveyden lukutaidon havaittiin vaihtelevan sukupuolen mukaan tytt\u00f6jen arvioidessa terveyden lukutaitonsa korkeammaksi. Tyt\u00f6ill\u00e4 terveyden lukutaidon taso vaihteli my\u00f6s luokka-asteen mukaan 9.-luokkalaisilla sen ollessa korkeampi kuin 7.-luokkalaisilla. Sukupuolittaisessa vertailussa pojat kokivat opettaja-oppilassuhteen tason korkeammaksi ja tyt\u00f6t puolestaan kokivat opettajan akateemisen tuen tason korkeammaksi 9.-luokkalaisten keskuudessa. Lis\u00e4ksi 9.-luokkalaiset kokivat opettaja-oppilassuhteen ja opettajan akateemisen tuen tasot korkeammaksi kuin 7.-luokkalaiset. Molemmilla luokka-asteilla tyt\u00f6t kokivat oppialassuhteiden tason korkeammaksi kuin pojat. Mit\u00e4 matalampia opettaja-oppilassuhteen, opettajan akateemisen tuen ja oppilassuhteiden tasot olivat, sit\u00e4 korkeampi oli nuoren arvioima terveyden lukutaito (pois lukien 7.-luokkalaiset pojat opettajan akateemisen tuen osalta). \n\nJohtop\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6ksen\u00e4 voidaan todeta terveyden lukutaidon kehittyv\u00e4n i\u00e4n my\u00f6t\u00e4 ja olevan suomalaisnuorista tyt\u00f6ill\u00e4 korkeampi kuin pojilla. Opettajat vaikuttavat tarjoavan oppilaiden i\u00e4n ja sukupuolen mukaan eri sis\u00e4lt\u00f6ist\u00e4 sosiaalista tukea. Tulos matalan sosiaalisen tuen ja korkean terveyden lukutaidon v\u00e4lisest\u00e4 yhteydest\u00e4 poikkeaa aiemmasta tutkimuksesta. N\u00e4in ollen sosiaalinen tuki kouluymp\u00e4rist\u00f6ss\u00e4 ei vaikutakaan v\u00e4ltt\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00e4 positiiviesti nuoren terveyden lukutaitoon. On hyvin mahdollista, ett\u00e4 nuoret saavat muissa elinymp\u00e4rist\u00f6iss\u00e4\u00e4n enemm\u00e4n sosiaalista tukea vaikuttaen positiivisesti terveyden lukutaidon tasoon. Opettajat ja luokkakaverit eiv\u00e4t olekaan v\u00e4ltt\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00e4 nuorelle merkitt\u00e4vimm\u00e4t terveyden lukutaidon tasoon vaikuttavista sosiaalisen tuen l\u00e4hteist\u00e4. Jatkossa sosiaalisen tuen yhteytt\u00e4 nuoren terveyden lukutaitoon tulisi tarkastella tarkemmin sen eri sis\u00e4lt\u00f6jen ja l\u00e4hteiden kautta.", "language": "fi", "element": "description", "qualifier": "abstract", "schema": "dc"}, {"key": "dc.description.abstract", "value": "The basis for health literacy is being created in youth and the school environment is seen as one of the key environments for its development. At the same time, school is seen as an important social environment where adolescents receive social support. Very little research has been done on the impact of social support on adolescents\u2019 health literacy in the school environment. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the received social support from the teacher and classmates and subjective health literacy of adolescents. \n\nThe data of this study is part of the Health Behavior of School-aged Children study (HBSC) which was collected from Finnish 7th (n=1918) and 9th (n=1935) graders in 2014. Data was analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 26 software. The analysis methods were cross-tabulation, chi-square (\u03c72) test and binary logistic regression. \n\nHealth literacy was found to vary by gender, with girls rating their health literacy levels higher. In girls, the level of health literacy also varied by grade level, with 9th graders rating the level of health literacy higher than 7th graders. Boys rated teacher-student relations higher than girls and girls rated teacher\u2019s academic support higher than boys when examining the 9th graders. In addition, 9th graders assessed the level of teacher-student relations and teacher\u2019s academic support higher than 7th graders. At both grade levels girls assessed the level of student relations higher than boys. The lower adolescent rated the level of teacher-student relation, teacher\u2019s academic support and student relations, the higher the level of health literacy they had (with the exception of 7th grade boys in terms of teacher\u2019s academic support). \n\nIn conclusion health literacy develops with age and is higher among young Finnish girls than among boys. Teachers seem to provide different levels of social support depending on the age and gender of the students. The result of the association between low level of social support and high level of health literacy differs from previous research. Thus, social support in the school environment does not necessarily have a positive effect on adolescent\u2019s health literacy. It is possible that adolescent will receive more social support in other environments, positively affecting health literacy levels. That is why teachers and classmates are not necessarily the most important sources of social support for young people when looking the level of health literacy.
