Aiempi \ntutkimus aiheeseen liittyen on keskittynyt p\u00e4\u00e4asiassa opettajien ammatillisiin identiteetteihin, ja\nopettajien kielelliset identiteetit ovat saaneet v\u00e4hemm\u00e4n huomiota. Tutkimuksien kohteena on \nollut juuri valmistuneita tai opintojensa lopussa olevia opettajia. T\u00e4m\u00e4 tutkimus pyrkii eroamaan \njoukosta huomioimalla opettajaksi opiskelevat tulevaisuuden opettajat aikaisemmassa \nvaiheessa heid\u00e4n opintojaan, sek\u00e4 paneutumalla ammatillisen identiteetin sijaan pelk\u00e4st\u00e4\u00e4n \nkielelliseen identiteettiin. \n\nAineistona tutkimuksessa k\u00e4ytettiin puolistrukturoituja haastatteluita, joita toteutettiin kaksi. \nKriteerein\u00e4 haastateltaville oli, ett\u00e4 he ovat englannin aineenopettajaksi opiskelevia, eiv\u00e4tk\u00e4 he \nolleet viel\u00e4 suorittaneet pedagogisia aineopintoja. Haastattelut toteutettiin internetin v\u00e4lityksell\u00e4.\n\nTutkimuksen tuloksista k\u00e4vi ilmi haastateltavien luokittelevan itsens\u00e4 monikielisiksi, sek\u00e4 \nheid\u00e4n identifioituvan vahvasti englannin kielen kanssa. Englannin rooli heid\u00e4n el\u00e4m\u00e4ss\u00e4\u00e4n \npohjautui sen aktiiviseen k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n arkisessa el\u00e4m\u00e4ss\u00e4 ja harrastuksien yhteydess\u00e4. Vaikka sen \nk\u00e4ytt\u00f6 opinnoissa nousi esiin, englannin k\u00e4ytt\u00f6 niiden ulkopuolella koettiin kielelliselle \nidentiteetille suuremmaksi tekij\u00e4ksi. Keskeisen\u00e4 vaikuttajana englannin k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n nousi sen \nhy\u00f6dynt\u00e4minen kommunikaatiov\u00e4lineen\u00e4 erilaisissa yhteis\u00f6iss\u00e4.
