Kustannukset ovat erityisen korkeat kilpailullisella tasolla harrastettaessa. Kustannusten kasvun taustalla ovat kasvaneet laatuvaatimukset ja seuratoiminnan ammattimaistuminen. Vanhempien sosioekonominen asema on yh\u00e4 merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4mm\u00e4ss\u00e4 roolissa kilpailullisen seurassa harrastamisen taustavaikuttajana. Harrastuskustannusten tarkastelu on t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4, sill\u00e4 seuratoiminnalla on merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4 rooli suomalaisessa liikuntakulttuurissa lasten ja nuorten liikuttajana. \nT\u00e4ss\u00e4 pro gradu -tutkielmassa tarkasteltiin jalkapallon harrastuskustannuksia 15-vuotiailla nuorilla, jotka harrastavat jalkapalloa kilpailullisella tasolla Suomessa. Lis\u00e4ksi tarkoituksena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 harrastavien nuorten vanhempien sosioekonominen asema ja tutkia sen vaikutuksia nuorten mahdollisuuksiin harrastaa jalkapalloa kilpailullisella tasolla. Sosioekonominen asema m\u00e4\u00e4rittyi tutkimuksessa koulutustaustan ja tulotason mukaan. Tutkimus toteutettiin kvantitatiivisin metodein. Aineisto ker\u00e4ttiin s\u00e4hk\u00f6isell\u00e4 kyselyll\u00e4, joka l\u00e4hetettiin Suomen Palloliiton etel\u00e4isen (ELL) ja pohjoisen (PSL) alueen liigojen joukkueiden pelaajien vanhemmille (n=189). \nJalkapallon harrastuskustannukset esitet\u00e4\u00e4n tutkimuksessa mediaanein. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen mukaan jalkapalloharrastuksen kokonaiskustannukset ovat 3 200 euroa vuodessa. Vuosittaiset kokonaiskustannukset ovat pojilla 3 825 euroa ja tyt\u00f6ill\u00e4 2 450 euroa. Kustannukset ovat pojilla tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4sti suuremmat tytt\u00f6ihin verrattuna kaikissa tutkituissa kustannusluokissa (v\u00e4ltt\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00f6m\u00e4t maksut, v\u00e4lilliset kulut ja kokonaiskustannukset). Jalkapalloa kilpailullisella tasolla harrastavien nuorten vanhemmat n\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytyv\u00e4t korkeasti koulutettuina ja hyv\u00e4tuloisina. Kotitalouden yhteenlaskettujen bruttotulojen mediaaniluokka on aineistossa 80 000\u201389 999 euroa vuodessa. Alemman tai ylemm\u00e4n korkeakoulututkinnon oli suorittanut 66 prosenttia kyselyyn vastanneista. Vanhempien mielest\u00e4 sosioekonomisella asemalla on merkityst\u00e4 nuoren mahdollisuuksiin harrastaa jalkapalloa kilpailullisella tasolla. \nTulosten mukaan kilpailullisen jalkapallon harrastuskustannukset ovat korkeahkolla tasolla. The costs are especially high at competitive level. The main reasons behind increased costs are increased quality demands by parents and professionalization of club sport. Parents\u2019 socioeconomic status is ever more in a significant role when it comes to children and adolescents\u2019 possibilities to participate in a competitive club sport. \nThis master\u2019s thesis explores the costs of participation in football at competitive level among 15-year-old adolescents in Finland. In addition, the purpose was to define parents\u2019 socioeconomic status and explore its effects on the adolescents\u2019 possibilities to participate in football at competitive level. In this study, socioeconomic status is determined by educational background and income level. This is quantitative research. The data of the study was collected with an electronic questionnaire that was sent to the parents (n=189) of football players from the clubs in Football association of Finland\u2019s southern region league (ELL) and northern region league (PSL). \nIn this study, the costs of participation in football are presented as medians. According to this study, the total costs are 3 200 euros annual in Finland. The total annual costs are 3 825 euros for boys and 2 450 euros for girls. When compared to girls, the costs for boys are statistically significantly higher in all categories (obligatory costs, indirect costs, total costs). According to this study, parents of adolescents who participate in football at a competitive level seem to be highly educated and wealthy. The households\u2019 median for combined gross income was 80 000 \u201389 999 euros annually. 66 percent of those who answered the questionnaire had completed a baccalaureate or a graduate degree. In parents\u2019 opinion, socioeconomic status matters when it comes to an adolescent\u2019s possibilities to participate in football at competitive level. \nAccording to the findings the costs of participation in football at competitive level are at somewhat high level.
