Suomen\nmaakotkakannasta suurin osa (n. 80 %) keskittyy Pohjois-Suomeen, ja t\u00e4m\u00e4n takia\nlajin elinymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n suojeleminen my\u00f6s Keski-Suomessa on t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4. Suuri uhka\nlajille t\u00e4ll\u00e4 hetkell\u00e4 on tuulivoima. Tuulivoimalahankkeet ovat yleistyneet mm.\nuusiutuvan energian tarpeen, ja tuulivoiman hyv\u00e4n s\u00e4hk\u00f6n tuottavuuden takia.\nTuulivoimaloita rakennetaan usein kauas asutuksesta luonnonmukaiselle\nsyrj\u00e4seudulle, josta syntyy kaavoituskonflikteja luonnonsuojelun ja\nenergiantuotannon v\u00e4lille. Tutkielman tavoitteena oli mallintaa maakotkille sopivia\nelinymp\u00e4rist\u00f6j\u00e4 Keski-Suomessa maksimientropiamallinnuksen ja\nreviirimallinnuksen (resurssienvalintafunktion) avulla, jotta tulevaisuudessa\nvoitaisiin v\u00e4ltt\u00e4\u00e4 tuulivoimapuistoja n\u00e4ill\u00e4 alueilla. Ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6muuttujia avoimista\nl\u00e4hteist\u00e4 k\u00e4ytettiin ennustamaan lajille sopivaa elinymp\u00e4rist\u00f6\u00e4 jo tiedettyjen lajin\npes\u00e4paikkojen avulla. Maksimientropiamallinnuksen avulla pystyttiin erottamaan\nlajille sopivia elinymp\u00e4rist\u00f6j\u00e4 Keski-Suomessa. Lis\u00e4ksi tutkittiin maakotkien\nreviirienk\u00e4yt\u00f6nastetta kirjallisuudessa k\u00e4ytetyll\u00e4 reviirimallilla. N\u00e4in voitiin erottaa\nmy\u00f6s aktiivisesti k\u00e4ytetty ydinreviiri, tunnettujen pesien ymp\u00e4rilt\u00e4. Yhdess\u00e4 n\u00e4m\u00e4\ntulokset antoivat selke\u00e4n kuvan maakotkien t\u00e4m\u00e4nhetkisist\u00e4 ja potentiaalisista\nelinymp\u00e4rist\u00f6ist\u00e4 Keski-Suomessa. Lis\u00e4ksi tuloksissa korostui\ntuulivoimahankkeiden sijoittuminen usein maakotkille sopivaan elinymp\u00e4rist\u00f6\u00f6n.\nTutkielman tulosta voidaan soveltaa mm. maakuntakaavan laatimisessa, uusien\ntekopesien pystytyksess\u00e4 ja muissa lajin suojelutoimissa. Golden eagle requires a large home range\nfor hunting and nesting; therefore, they are often short for space. In Finland, most\nof the golden eagle population is focussed on Northern Finland (approx. 80 %),\nthereby it is even more important to conserve the species habitat in Central Finland.\nDue to pressures for clean energy, wind power plants are becoming more popular\nin rural areas. This often leads to conflicts regarding land use, for either nature\nconservation or for clean energy production. The aim of this study was to use\nspecies distribution modelling to discover areas of high suitability for the species,\nso that in the future these areas could be avoided by wind park projects. The\nenvironmental data was from public sources and the nesting data was provided by\nCentral Finland Centre for Economic Development (ELY Centre). The methods\nwere based on predicting potential habitat by the values exhibited in the known\nspecies locations. With maximum entropy species distribution modelling we could\ndetect potential species habitat and nesting sites. Also, with resource selection\nfunction modelling we could detect active areas near the nest that the existing\ngolden eagle pairs used frequently. Together these results gave a good idea of the\nmost crucial areas to the species currently, and of the potential areas for species\ndistribution in future. In the results we also demonstrated some of the current\nconflicts for space, as there were already wind power plans in golden eagle areas of\nhigh suitability and use.
