In the world of science, energy refers to a specific phenomenon. The exact definition of the concept of energy has proven to be difficult, however. This issue has affected the way the concept is being taught and the multitude of ways of doing so.\n\nIn this thesis I will be examining superficially how the concept of energy is being taught and what sort of challenges its teaching affiliates with. I will also be examining the document known as \"Lukion opetussuunnitelman perusteet 2019\" (The Basis of the Upper Secondary School Curriculum 2019) and how it changes the way the concept of energy is taught in upper secondary school. I will also go through the upper secondary school physics modules and their contents in outline.\n\nThe thesis also introduces the basic concepts relating to energy, which are the conservation of energy, energy transfer, energy degradation, the forms of energy, and the changes in the forms of energy.
