Yh\u00e4 useammin ihmisilt\u00e4 odotetaan kyky\u00e4 suulliseen kommunikointiin englannin kielell\u00e4. Monet kuitenkin kokevat, ettei suullista kielitaitoa opeteta ja harjoiteta tarpeeksi muiden kielten osa-alueiden suuremman painotuksen vuoksi. Suullisen kielitaidon opettaminen koulussa on t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 arkiel\u00e4m\u00e4ss\u00e4 p\u00e4rj\u00e4\u00e4misen lis\u00e4ksi my\u00f6s siksi, ett\u00e4 se voi edesauttaa osaamista kielen muilla osa-alueilla. My\u00f6s oppilaiden yksil\u00f6lliset erot suullisen kielitaidon oppimisessa vaativat selke\u00e4\u00e4 ja laajempaa opettamista.\nTutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 yl\u00e4koulun englannin aineenopettajien n\u00e4kemyksi\u00e4 englannin suullisesta kielitaidosta ja sen opetuksesta. Tutkimus pyrki selvitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n miten t\u00e4rke\u00e4n\u00e4 opettajat pit\u00e4v\u00e4t suullista kielitaitoa ja miten usein he opettavat sit\u00e4. Lis\u00e4ksi tutkimus pyrki selvitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n millaisia teht\u00e4vi\u00e4 opettajat suosivat, ja millaisia ongelmia he kohtaavat opettaessaan suullista kielitaitoa. Muutamia tutkimuksia on tehty aiheeseen liittyen, mutta kohderyhm\u00e4t ovat usein keskittyneet lukio-opettajiin ja -opiskelijoihin. T\u00e4m\u00e4n vuoksi koin t\u00e4rke\u00e4ksi selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 suullisen kielitaidon ja sen opettamisen asemaa my\u00f6s yl\u00e4kouluopettajien n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta.\nTutkimukseen osallistui 11 englannin aineenopettajaa eri puolilta Suomea. Aineisto ker\u00e4ttiin anonyymin kyselytutkimuksen avulla, joka koostui kolmesta monivalintakysymyksest\u00e4 sek\u00e4 nelj\u00e4st\u00e4 avoimesta kysymyksest\u00e4. Aineiston keruu tapahtui joulukuun 2019 ja tammikuun 2020 aikana. Analyysimetodina k\u00e4ytettiin temaattista analyysia.\nYleisesti suullista kielitaitoa pidettiin t\u00e4rke\u00e4n\u00e4 osana kielen oppimista, mik\u00e4 osaksi korreloi opetuksen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4n kanssa. Suullisen kielitaidon opettamisen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4n vaikutti ryhm\u00e4n tyyppi, joka muodostuu siihen kuuluvien yksil\u00f6iden ominaisuuksien mukaan. Suosituimmiksi suullisen kielitaidon teht\u00e4viksi osoittautuivat pari- ja ryhm\u00e4keskustelut niiden mielekkyyden vuoksi. Kuitenkin yksi suurimmista haasteista oli oppilaiden haluttomuus teht\u00e4vien tekemiseen joko kielenk\u00e4yt\u00f6n ep\u00e4varmuuden takia tai haluttomuus ty\u00f6skennell\u00e4 tiettyjen ihmisten kanssa. Opettajilta vaaditaankin suuria ponnisteluja oppilaiden varmuuden ja motivaation kasvattamiseksi.\nAiheesta olisi hyv\u00e4 tehd\u00e4 lis\u00e4tutkimuksia laajemmalla otannalla, sek\u00e4 mahdollisesti erilaisia tutkimusmenetelmi\u00e4 k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en.
