Lis\u00e4ksi perehdyt\u00e4\u00e4n yhdisteiden rakenteen, magneettisten ja optisten ominaisuuksien v\u00e4liseen suhteeseen. Tutkielman koostuu sek\u00e4 kirjallisesta ett\u00e4 kokeellisesta osasta. Kirjallisessa osassa perehdyt\u00e4\u00e4n yksitt\u00e4ismolekyylimagneetteihin ja luminesenssiin, sek\u00e4 lantanoseeni-komplekseihin, joilla on edell\u00e4 mainittuja ominaisuuksia. Kompleksien synteettiset, rakenteelliset ja fysikaalisten ominaisuuksien yksityiskohdat k\u00e4yd\u00e4\u00e4n l\u00e4pi, jonka j\u00e4lkeen perehdyt\u00e4\u00e4n yhdisteisiin, joissa magneettiset ja optiset ominaisuudet ovat yhdistetty. T\u00e4llaiset optomagneettiset yhdisteet eiv\u00e4t kuitenkaan pohjaudu lantanoseeneihin, joten tutkielmassa esitell\u00e4\u00e4n muita lantanoideihin pohjautuvia komplekseja, joissaa hy\u00f6dynnet\u00e4\u00e4n donori-atomeja sis\u00e4lt\u00e4vi\u00e4 ligandeja. N\u00e4m\u00e4 kompleksit eiv\u00e4t kuitenkaan luo optimaalista ligandikentt\u00e4\u00e4, mink\u00e4 takia n\u00e4iden kompleksien magneettiset ominaisuudet ovat huonompia kuin lantanoseeneilla.\n\nVaikka yksitt\u00e4ismolekyylimagneettien suunnittelu on kehittynyt paljon viime vuosina, vain yksi lantanoseeni yksitt\u00e4ismolekyylimagneetti, joka s\u00e4ilytt\u00e4\u00e4 ominaisuutensa nestem\u00e4isen typen kiehumispisteen (77 K) yl\u00e4puolella, on olemassa. T\u00e4m\u00e4 johtuu siit\u00e4, ett\u00e4 sellaisten lantanoidi-kompleksien syntetisointi, joilla on optimaalinen ligandikentt\u00e4, on haastavaa, koska lantanoidit suosivat korkeita koordinaatiolukuja. Yleens\u00e4 trivalenttiset lantanoidien kompleksit omaavat paremmat magneettiset ominaisuudet kuin divalenttiset, mutta t\u00e4m\u00e4 trendi on p\u00e4invastainen luminesenssin osalta. T\u00e4st\u00e4 syyst\u00e4 optomagneettisten kompleksien synteesi vaatii hyvi\u00e4 antenni-ligandeja, jotka siirt\u00e4v\u00e4t energiaa lantanoidille vahvistaen sen luminesenssia. T\u00e4st\u00e4 syyst\u00e4 aryyli-substituoidut syklopentadieeniligandit voisivat olla eritt\u00e4in lupaavia l\u00e4ht\u00f6aineita optomagneettisten yhdisteiden valmistuksessa.\n\nKokeellinen osa keskittyy aryyli-substituoitujen syklopentadieenien yttrium-komplekseihin, sill\u00e4 n\u00e4iden ligandien rakenteelliset ominaisuudet voisivat vahvistaa sek\u00e4 magneettisia ett\u00e4 luminesenssi ominaisuuksia. Kokeellisessa osassa syntetisoitiin kaksi ligandia, jotka olivat 1,2,4-trifenyylisyklopenta-1,3-dieeni sek\u00e4 2-(2,3,4,5-tetrafenyylisyklopenta-2-4-dienyyli)-1-(p-tolyyli)hydratsoni. Molemmista rakenteista mitattiin yksitt\u00e4iskide-r\u00f6ntgendiffraktion avulla kiderakenteet. Ligandit deprotonoitiin, jolloin niist\u00e4 saatiin alkalisuoloja sek\u00e4 kaliumin, ett\u00e4 litiumin kanssa. Ligandien alkalisuolat etenkin litiumin tapauksessa olivat todella herkki\u00e4, ja ne hajosivat hanskakaapissa muutaman viikon kuluessa.\n\nYll\u00e4 mainittuja deprotonoituja ligandeja k\u00e4ytettiin homoleptisten yttium-kompleksien synteeseiss\u00e4. My\u00f6s sellaisia heteroleptisi\u00e4 rakenteita pyrittiin syntetisoimaan, joissa toinen ligandi on aryyli-substituoitu ja toinen on alkyyli-substituoitu. Yhdest\u00e4k\u00e4\u00e4n kompleksista ei kuitenkaan saatu kiteist\u00e4 tuotetta, mink\u00e4 takia kiderakennetta ei voitu mitata. Jos halutut yhdisteet olisi saatu karakterisoitua t\u00e4ysin, niiden magneettisia ja luminesenssi ominaisuuksia olisi voitu mitata.\n\nYksitt\u00e4ismolekyylimagneetteja voitaisiin tulevaisuudessa soveltaa esimerkiksi korkean tallennuskapasiteetin muisteissa, spintroniikassa sek\u00e4 kvanttilaskennassa. Etenkin muistin tallennuksessa n\u00e4ist\u00e4 molekulaarisista magneeteista voitaisiin hy\u00f6ty\u00e4, sill\u00e4 ne mahdollistavat eritt\u00e4in pienien tallennuslevyjen valmistuksen.
