Tutkielmassa k\u00e4sitell\u00e4\u00e4n metallisieppareiden rakenteita, funktionaalisia ryhmi\u00e4, sek\u00e4 erilaisten tekij\u00f6iden, kuten pH:n, l\u00e4mp\u00f6tilan ja matriisin vaikutusta metallisieppareiden ja metalli-ionien v\u00e4lisiin vuorovaikutuksiin. Metallinsieppauksen lis\u00e4ksi tarkastellaan desorptiota, eli metalli-ionien vapauttamista metallisiepparista.\n\nKokeellisessa osassa tutkitaan eri sieppareiden talteenottotehokkuutta ja alkuainejakaumia k\u00e4ytett\u00e4ess\u00e4 erilaisia sieppareita, pH-arvoja, happoja, matriiseja, sek\u00e4 pitoisuuksia. N\u00e4iden lis\u00e4ksi tutkitaan harvinaisten maametallien takaisinuuttoa 3D-tulostetusta siepparista. Kaikki tutkitut harvinaiset maametallit olivat lantanoideja. Saatujen tulosten perusteella harvinaisten maametallien talteenotossa metallisieppareilla voidaan saavuttaa yli 1 mmol per gramma siepparia, kun k\u00e4ytet\u00e4\u00e4n siepparina Lewatit TP 260 ioninvaihtohartsia pH-alueella 3-6.
