Viestinn\u00e4ll\u00e4 oletetaan olevan kriittinen rooli tiimity\u00f6ss\u00e4 ja kansainv\u00e4lisiss\u00e4 ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6iss\u00e4 englanti on yleisesti hyv\u00e4ksytty lingua francana. Tutkimuksessa on alettu hitaasti kiinnitt\u00e4\u00e4 huomiota kielierojen vaikutuksiin monikulttuurisien ty\u00f6tiimien suhteisiin ja tiimin suoritukseen, mutta yliopistokontekstia sek\u00e4 englanti lingua francana -n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmaa ei ole viel\u00e4 tutkittu riitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti.\n\nT\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkielman tarkoituksena on tarkastella opiskelijoiden k\u00e4sityksi\u00e4 kielitaidon roolista englanniksi ty\u00f6skenteleviss\u00e4 monikulttuurisissa tiimeiss\u00e4 suomalaisessa yliopistossa. T\u00e4t\u00e4 on selvitetty tutkimalla osallistujien asenteita standardikieli-ideologiaan sek\u00e4 heid\u00e4n n\u00e4kemyksi\u00e4\u00e4n erilaisista kielitaidon tasoista tiimity\u00f6ss\u00e4 ja heid\u00e4n strategioistaan kieliesteiden k\u00e4sittelemiseksi. Lis\u00e4ksi tutkielmassa valaistiin kielitaitoerojen vaikutuksia luottamuksen muodostumiseen ja valtasuhteisiin. Monimenetelm\u00e4llist\u00e4 l\u00e4hestymistapaa k\u00e4ytettiin, jotta oli mahdollista l\u00f6yt\u00e4\u00e4 kattavia vastauksia tutkimuskysymyksiin yhdist\u00e4m\u00e4ll\u00e4 ilmi\u00f6iden yksityiskohtaiset kuvaukset tilastollisiin havaintoihin. Aineisto koostui sek\u00e4 kahdeksasta haastattelusta, joita analysoitiin laadullista sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysi\u00e4 hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4en, ett\u00e4 51 osallistujan online-kyselylomaketiedoista, jotka edellyttiv\u00e4t kvantitatiivista analyysi\u00e4. \n\nT\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tulokset osoittavat, ett\u00e4 tiimin j\u00e4senten kielitaidon eroilla voi olla kielteisi\u00e4 vaikutuksia tiimin sis\u00e4iseen viestint\u00e4\u00e4n ja tiimin ty\u00f6skentelyyn. Kieliesteiden negatiivisia vaikutuksia voidaan kuitenkin minimoida erilaisten strategioiden avulla. Lis\u00e4ksi havainnot paljastavat joidenkin tiimin j\u00e4senten englannin kielen taitojen korreloivan positiivisesti sek\u00e4 koetun luotettavuuden ett\u00e4 vallan kanssa. Opiskelijoilla n\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 edelleen olevan jonkin verran perinteisi\u00e4 standardikieli-ideologian mukaisia n\u00e4kemyksi\u00e4. Vastakkaisten ja ep\u00e4varmojen mielipiteiden m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 kuitenkin kyseenalaistaa t\u00e4m\u00e4n asenteen hallitsevuuden.
