Uutuudenhaun käyttö parantaa evoluutioalgoritmin kykyä selviytyä harhaanjohtavista tehtävistä ja tutkia eri ratkaisuvaihtoehtoja monipuolisesti. Varioinnintarkastelu tehdään keskittyen neljän evoluutioprosessissa toistettavan vaiheen, lisääntyjienvalinta, jälkeläisten luonti, yksilöiden arviointi ja selviytyjien valinta, eri toteutuksiin. Investigating, in the form of a scoping literature review, variating the evolution process in evolutionary algorithms that use openended evolution, namely different variations of the novelty search method and forming a picture of how different phases of the processcan be variated. The use of novelty search improves an evolutionary algorithms ability to manage deceptive problems and to search for solutions diversely. Investigating the variating is done by focusing on the implementation of the four repeating phases of the evolution process, parent selection, creating offspring, evaluating individuals and survivor selection.
