Muutosta on vauhdittanut my\u00f6s omalta osaltaan vuonna 2020 laajalle levinnyt COVID-19-pandemia, mink\u00e4 seurauksena organisaatiot ovat joutuneet uuden tilanteen eteen. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 ja ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4\u00e4, miten teknologian kehitys ja ty\u00f6nteon muutos ovat vaikuttaneet ty\u00f6ntekoon ja miten toimistolla tapahtuvan ty\u00f6skentelyn tuloksellisuus eroaa virtuaality\u00f6n tuloksellisuudesta. Tutkielman osatavoitteena oli l\u00f6yt\u00e4\u00e4 keinoja, joilla kohdeyritys voi kehitt\u00e4\u00e4 virtuaalitiimien toimintaa ja tuloksellisuutta. Kohdeyrityksen\u00e4 toimi ICT-alan yritys. Tutkimuksen aineisto perustui tutkimusaiheeseen liittyv\u00e4\u00e4n kirjallisuuteen, aiempiin tutkimuksiin sek\u00e4 teemahaastatteluilla ja puolistrukturoiduilla kyselyill\u00e4 ker\u00e4ttyyn empiiriseen aineistoon. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 laadullisessa tutkimuksessa hy\u00f6dynnettiin tutkimusmenetelm\u00e4n\u00e4 teemahaastattelua ja aineiston analysoinnissa deduktiivista sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysi\u00e4. Tutkimuksen perusteella selvisi, ett\u00e4 teknologinen kehitys on pitk\u00e4ll\u00e4 aikav\u00e4lill\u00e4 muokannut ty\u00f6skentelytapoja. Viimeaikainen teknologinen kehitys liittyi enimm\u00e4kseen olemassa olevien teknologioiden parantumiseen, mik\u00e4 on mahdollistanut ty\u00f6n tehostumisen. Teknologia on mahdollistanut ennen kaikkea joustavan tavan tehd\u00e4 t\u00f6it\u00e4 ajasta ja paikasta riippumatta. Toisaalta teknologisen kehityksen koettiin vaikuttaneen siihen, ett\u00e4 ty\u00f6n ja vapaa-ajan v\u00e4linen raja on h\u00e4m\u00e4rtynyt. Tutkimuksen mukaan ty\u00f6ergonomiaan ja tuloksellisuuteen vaikutti negatiivisesti erityisesti taukojen puuttuminen. COVID-19-pandemian ja lis\u00e4\u00e4ntyneen et\u00e4ty\u00f6skentelyn koettiin johtaneen yhteis\u00f6llisyyden ja sosiaalisten kontaktien v\u00e4henemiseen, kun ep\u00e4viralliset keskustelut ovat j\u00e4\u00e4net v\u00e4hemm\u00e4lle. My\u00f6s yhteisty\u00f6n ja ideoinnin koettiin olleen luontevampaa kasvotusten. Lis\u00e4ksi tutkimustuloksien perusteella todettiin, ett\u00e4 et\u00e4ty\u00f6ss\u00e4 ja toimistolla ty\u00f6skennelt\u00e4ess\u00e4 on kummassakin hyv\u00e4t puolensa, riippuen ty\u00f6teht\u00e4v\u00e4n luonteesta. Tuloksellisin ty\u00f6skentelytapa voidaan saavuttaa yhdistelem\u00e4ll\u00e4 molempien ty\u00f6skentelymuotojen hyvi\u00e4 puolia, jolloin puhutaan hybridimallista. In the year 2020, the widespread COVID-19 pandemic has also escalated the change of work by placing organizations in new circumstances. The aim of this study was to clarify and understand how the technological development and the transformation of work have affected working effectiveness, and how the effectiveness of working in an office environment differs from the effectiveness of virtual working. The sub-goal of this study was to discover practices on how the target company can develop the operation and effectiveness of virtual teams. Target company was from ICT industry. This research material was based on the literature related to the research topic, previous research papers and empirical data that were collected through theme interviews and a semi-structured survey. Qualitative research and deductive content analysis were utilized to analyze the empirical data. The study revealed that, technological development has shaped the way of working in the long term. Recent technological development was mostly focused on the improvement of existing technologies that have made work more efficient. Above all, technology has made it possible to work flexible, regardless of time or place. On the other hand, technological development has blurred the boundaries between work-life and free time. According to this study, especially the lack of breaks has negatively affected working ergonomics and profitability. Interviewees mentioned that the COVID-19 pandemic and increased remote working has decreased feelings of togetherness and decreased social contacts when unofficial discussions dropped out. In addition, collaborating and generating new ideas were not experienced as natural as working face-to-face. Based on the findings of this study, the results indicate that that remote working and working in an office environment have both their own advantages, depending on the nature of the job. By combining the advantages of both forms of work, the most productive way of working will be achieved. The term for this concept is a hybrid model.
