Opettajan auktoriteetin on perinteisesti n\u00e4hty tarkoittavan opettajan valtaa oppilaisiin. Nykyinen n\u00e4kemys korostaa enemm\u00e4n opettajan ja oppilaan v\u00e4list\u00e4 vuorovaikutusta. Silti viel\u00e4 nykyp\u00e4iv\u00e4n\u00e4 ei ole yksimielist\u00e4, mit\u00e4 opettajan auktoriteetti k\u00e4sitteen\u00e4 tarkoittaa, ja miten se n\u00e4kyy k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6ss\u00e4. \nKeskeisen\u00e4 osana tutkimusta olivat opettajan toiminnan, luokkahuoneen ilmapiirin sek\u00e4 opettajan persoonan suhde opettajan auktoriteettiin ja sen muodostumiseen. Aiheesta ei ole juurikaan tutkimustietoa opettajien henkil\u00f6kohtaisesta n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta.\n Tutkimusaineisto ker\u00e4ttiin puolistrukturoituja haastatteluja hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4en. Aineisto koostui yhteens\u00e4 kuudesta (6) haastattelusta, joiden kestot vaihtelivat kahdenkymmenenyhden (21) ja kuudenkymmenenkahden (62) minuutin v\u00e4lill\u00e4. Analyysivaiheessa k\u00e4ytettiin sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysia tutkimusmetodina. Tutkimukseen haastateltiin englanninopettajia, luokanopettajia, ja henkil\u00f6it\u00e4, jotka ovat sijaistaneet vailla varsinaista opettajankoulutusta. Yksi aspekti tutkimuksessa oli siis my\u00f6s selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, miss\u00e4 m\u00e4\u00e4rin auktoriteetista on puhuttu koulutuksen aikana, ja miten koulutus on vaikuttanut auktoriteetin muodostumiseen. \nTutkimuksesta ilmenee, ettei opettajan auktoriteetti ole k\u00e4sitteen\u00e4 selke\u00e4, ja se tarkoittaa eri asioita eri opettajille. My\u00f6s n\u00e4kemykset auktoriteetin alkuper\u00e4st\u00e4 vaihtelevat. Opettajan ja oppilaan v\u00e4linen vuorovaikutus n\u00e4htiin keskeisemp\u00e4n\u00e4 kuin opettajan valta. Opettajan luonne ja vuorovaikutuksen laatu osoittautuivat t\u00e4rke\u00e4mm\u00e4ksi auktoriteetin muodostumisen kannalta kuin opettajan toiminta luokkahuoneessa. Opettajan toiminta on tosin t\u00e4rke\u00e4 silt\u00e4 osin, ett\u00e4 kokemuksen tuoma tietotaito luo positiivista ilmapiiri\u00e4 luokkaan. Luokanopettajien ja kielten opettajien v\u00e4lill\u00e4 ei havaittu selkeit\u00e4 eroja heid\u00e4n n\u00e4kemyksiss\u00e4\u00e4n opettajan auktoriteetista. Kouluttamattomat opettajat puolestaan n\u00e4kev\u00e4t auktoriteetin eri tavalla. Heid\u00e4n toimintansa luokkahuoneessa on erilaista, ja he painottavat eri asioita.\n Koska tutkimus ei antanut selke\u00e4\u00e4 kuvaa siit\u00e4, miten opettajan toiminta luokkahuoneessa vaikuttaa opettajan auktoriteettiin, vaadittaisiin jatkotutkimusta mahdollisista yleistett\u00e4vist\u00e4 toimintamalleista, jotka edist\u00e4isiv\u00e4t auktoriteetin muodostumista.
