Sen tyypillisimpi\u00e4 ilmenemismuotoja ovat lukemiseen ja kirjoittamiseen liittyv\u00e4t virheet ja hitaus, heikko ty\u00f6muisti ja kuulonvaraisen prosessoinnin heikkous. Tyypillisi\u00e4 lukivaikeuteen liitettyj\u00e4 vahvuuksia taas ovat visuaalinen oppiminen ja luovuus.\n\nSuomalainen koululaitos on perinteisesti nojautunut vahvasti kirjalliseen oppimiseen ja oppikirjojen k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n, jotka voivat lukivaikeuksisille oppijoille olla ty\u00f6l\u00e4it\u00e4. Erityisen hankalaksi kirjallinen oppiminen saattaa osoittautua vieraita kieli\u00e4 opiskeltaessa, jolloin lis\u00e4hankaluutta tuo toimiminen vieraalla kielell\u00e4. Lukuisten tutkimusten mukaan parhaita oppimistapoja lukivaikeuksisille oppilaille on useiden oppimiskanavien (kuulo, n\u00e4k\u00f6, kinesteettinen, jne.) stimulointi. My\u00f6s visuaaliset vihjeet ja tekem\u00e4ll\u00e4 oppiminen ovat t\u00e4rkeit\u00e4 oppimismetodeja.\n\nT\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, kuinka hyvin englannin kielen oppikirjat noudattavat tutkimuksissa havaittuja periaatteita hyvist\u00e4 opetustavoista lukivaikeuksisille oppijoille. Tutkimus toteutettiin analysoimalla nelj\u00e4n eri kirjasarjan seitsem\u00e4nnen luokan ty\u00f6kirjan kaikki teht\u00e4v\u00e4t ja kategorisoimalla n\u00e4m\u00e4 sen mukaan, mit\u00e4 oppimiskanavia ne stimuloivat. Hypoteesina oli, ett\u00e4 merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4 osa oppikirjojen teht\u00e4vist\u00e4 olisi kirjallisia. T\u00e4st\u00e4 syyst\u00e4 my\u00f6s kirjasarjojen opettajan oppaat analysoitiin, jotta n\u00e4ht\u00e4isiin mink\u00e4laisia ohjeita ne antavat materiaalin muokkauksesta erilaisten oppilaiden tarpeisiin.\n\nTutkimus osoitti, ett\u00e4 englannin kielen oppikirjat sis\u00e4lt\u00e4v\u00e4t hyvin yksipuolisia teht\u00e4vi\u00e4, eiv\u00e4tk\u00e4 opettajan oppaat anna hyvi\u00e4 neuvoja materiaalin muokkaamiseen.
