Tutkielman tarkoituksena oli saada selville, millaisia tekij\u00f6it\u00e4 liikunnanopettajat n\u00e4kev\u00e4t tanssinopetuksen taustalla ja miten he kokevat valmiutensa tanssin opettamiseen, sek\u00e4 mit\u00e4 annettavaa ja mink\u00e4laisia haasteita tanssilla on koulussa liikunnanopettajien kokemuksen mukaan. Tutkielmassa selvitettiin my\u00f6s, miten liikunnanopettajat m\u00e4\u00e4rittelev\u00e4t tanssin ja mink\u00e4lainen suhde heill\u00e4 on tanssiin. Lis\u00e4ksi tarkoituksena oli tutkia, kuinka paljon liikunnanopettajat opettavat tanssia ja millaiseksi he kokevat tanssinopetuksensa laadun. Tutkimus toteutettiin laadullisena tutkimuksena. Tutkimuksen aineisto hankittiin tammi- ja helmikuussa 2020. K\u00e4ytimme aineistonkeruumenetelm\u00e4n\u00e4 teemahaastattelua. Haastattelimme kuutta eri puolilla Suomea ty\u00f6skentelev\u00e4\u00e4 liikunnanopettajaa, joilla oli ty\u00f6kokemusta liikunnanopettajana 1\u201328 vuotta. Analysoimme haastatteluista saadun aineiston teoriasidonnaisen analyysin avulla. \n\nKaikki liikunnanopettajat kertoivat opettavansa tanssia liikuntatunneillaan, keskim\u00e4\u00e4rin kuusi oppituntia lukuvuodessa. Liikunnanopettajien k\u00e4ytt\u00e4m\u00e4t m\u00e4\u00e4ritelm\u00e4t tanssista koululiikunnan kontekstissa olivat vaihtelevia, ja tanssinopetuksesta k\u00e4ytettiin my\u00f6s termej\u00e4 kehollinen ilmaisu ja musiikkiliikunta. Kaikki liikunnanopettajat kokivat valmiutensa tanssinopetukseen riitt\u00e4viksi, ja he panostivat opetuksessaan hyv\u00e4\u00e4n ilmapiiriin sek\u00e4 selke\u00e4\u00e4n ja yksinkertaiseen opetukseen. Koulussa j\u00e4rjestett\u00e4v\u00e4t erilaiset tanssitapahtumat olivat oppilaille merkitt\u00e4vi\u00e4 liikunnanopettajien kokemusten mukaan. Liikunnanopettajat n\u00e4kiv\u00e4t tanssilla olevan monipuolisia hy\u00f6tyj\u00e4 oppilaille. Oppilaiden kehontuntemus ja itsetunto vahvistuivat, vuorovaikutustaidot kehittyiv\u00e4t ja sosiaaliset taidot paranivat tanssin avulla. Tanssinopetuksessa opettajat kokivat haasteelliseksi tanssin suunnittelun aikaavievyyden sek\u00e4 oppilaiden tasoerot, ja tanssinopetuksen haasteina n\u00e4htiin ymp\u00e4r\u00f6ivien yhteis\u00f6jen ja yhteiskunnan asettamat normit sek\u00e4 oppilaiden aiheeseen motivoiminen. Liikunnanopettajat kokivat tanssinopetukseen keskeisesti vaikuttavana tekij\u00e4n\u00e4 opettajan omat p\u00e4tevyyden kokemukset. Tutkimuksessa saatuja tuloksia voidaan hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4\u00e4 yl\u00e4koulujen liikunnanopetuksen kehitt\u00e4misess\u00e4 sek\u00e4 koulujen toiminnallisen toimintakulttuurin luomisessa. We wanted to ask what background factors P.E teachers saw affecting dance teaching and how they experienced their readiness in teaching dance. The aim was to research what the teachers thought dance has to offer in school or what kind of challenges or obstacles dance might have to overcome in school. In addition, one subject of this study was to see how the interviewed teachers defined dance overall and what kind of a relationship they had with dance. Furthermore, we aimed to find out how much the teachers taught dance and how they saw the quality of their dance teaching. The study was carried out by using qualitative research method. The research data was gathered in January and February 2020 by semi-structured interview. We interviewed six physical education teachers, who had work experience 1\u201328 years. We analyzed the data from the interviews by using content analysis.\n\nAll the physical education teachers interviewed told they teach dance in their P.E lessons, approximately six lessons per year. Their definitions of dance in the context of physical education in secondary school varied and some of them used terms as bodily expression and musical physical education of their dance teaching. All the teachers felt their preparedness to teaching dance was adequate and they emphasized good atmosphere and simple teaching in their dance lessons. Different school happenings that included dance were meaningful for the students according to the teachers\u00b4 experiences. The physical education teachers felt dance could offer versatile benefits for students such as strengthening bodily awareness and self-esteem or developing interaction and social skills. Teachers saw the planning of the dance lessons laborious and time consuming and the extensive skill levels of the students as obstacles in dance teaching. Additionally the norms and expectations of the surrounding societies such as gender roles and different religions and motivating the students were perceived challenging. The P.E teachers experienced competence as an essential factor affecting in teaching dance. Results of this study can be exploited in developing physical education teaching and creating active culture in secondary school.
