N\u00e4ihin lukeutuvat kalattomat lammet ovat niukasti tutkittuja elinymp\u00e4rist\u00f6j\u00e4. Kalojen saalistuksen on havaittu olevan t\u00e4rke\u00e4 vesihy\u00f6nteisyhteis\u00f6jen rakenteeseen ja monimuotoisuuteen vaikuttava te-kij\u00e4 ja etenkin vedess\u00e4 vapaasti uivien selk\u00e4rangattomien eli nektonin on todettu olevan herkk\u00e4\u00e4 kalojen saalistukselle. Tutkin nektisten hy\u00f6nteisyhteis\u00f6jen vaihtelua It\u00e4-Lapin alueen kalattomissa lammissa (n = 30). Tutkimuksessa havaittiin 10279 yksil\u00f6\u00e4 ja 50 taksonia nektonhy\u00f6nteisi\u00e4. Lammista mitattiin ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6-muuttujia, joiden yhteyksi\u00e4 tutkittiin paikalliseen monimuotoisuuteen ja yhteis\u00f6n rakentumiseen. T\u00e4rkeimm\u00e4t paikalliseen monimuotoisuuteen kytk\u00f6ksiss\u00e4 olevat muuttujat olivat kokonaisfosforipitoisuus ja veden happamuus. Fosforipitoisuudella oli positiivinen yhteys paikalliseen monimuotoisuuteen ja pH-arvolla hieman lievempi, negatiivinen yhteys. Lajim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4lt\u00e4\u00e4n rikkaimpien nektonyhteis\u00f6jen elinymp\u00e4rist\u00f6j\u00e4 luonnehti korkea tuottavuus ja alhainen pH. Lampien nektisten hy\u00f6nteisyhteis\u00f6jen samankaltaisuutta ja yhteytt\u00e4 ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6muuttujiin tutkittiin tarkemmin ordinaatioanalyysin avulla. S\u00e4\u00e4nn\u00f6llisesti kausikuivien lampien yhteis\u00f6t osoittautuivat kesken\u00e4\u00e4n samankaltaisiksi ja muiden lampien yhteis\u00f6ist\u00e4 poikkeaviksi. Lammet sijaitsivat muita lampia korkeammalla (>400 mmpy), niit\u00e4 yhdisti pieni valuma-alue ja hapan vesi (pH = 3,68\u20134,74). Kyseisten lampien nektisten hy\u00f6nteisyhteis\u00f6jen omaleimaisuutta luonnehti aineiston sek\u00e4 yleisimm\u00e4n ett\u00e4 runsaslukuisimman lajin, Chaoborus obscuripes sulkahyttysen, melkein t\u00e4ydellinen puuttuminen ja hyttysten runsaampi esiintyminen sek\u00e4 yksil\u00f6- ett\u00e4 lajim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4llisesti. Hyttyslajit Ochlerotatus communis, O. impiger, O. nigrinus, O. pionips ja O. pullatus esiintyiv\u00e4t vain n\u00e4iss\u00e4 vuosittain kuivuvissa lammissa. Havainnot viittaavat siihen, ett\u00e4 ainakin It\u00e4-Lapissa hyttysille merkitt\u00e4vimpi\u00e4 saalistajia ovat Chaoborus suvun sulkahyttysten toukat. One reason behind the global mass extinction wave is climate change. As a result of global warming and changes in precipitation, different ephemeral aquatic habi-tats are under threat. Amongst these habitats are fishless ponds, which have been subject to sparse studies. Fish predation has been proven an important factor af-fecting the structuring and biodiversity of aquatic insect assemblages. Particularly susceptible are the actively swimming invertebrates, the nekton. In this work I studied the variation of nektic insect assemblages in fishless ponds (n = 30) of Eastern Lapland. In this study, the observed 10279 individuals of nektic insects belong to 50 taxa. Environmental variables were measured from the ponds and their relationships to the structure and local diversity of the insect assemblages were examined. The most important variables associated with local diversity were total phosphorus content (TP) and water acidity (pH). TP showed a positive rela-tionship with local diversity whereas pH showed a slightly weaker and negative relationship. Thus, the most species rich ponds were characterized by high productivity and low pH. The relationships to environmental variables and the dissimilarity of the assemblages were further explored with ordination tech-niques. The assemblages of strictly temporal ponds were found to be similar with each other and distinct from the assemblages in less temporal ponds. In terms of environmental variables these regularly drying ponds were located at higher alti-tudes (>400 m.a.s.l) and were described by a small catchment area and markedly acidic water (pH = 3.68-4.74). The uniqueness of the nektic species assemblages in these ponds was characterized by almost complete absence of the most common and numerous species of the study, the phantom midge Chaoborus obscuripes, while the presence of mosquitoes was elevated both in abundance and number of species. The mosquito species Ochlerotatus communis, O. impiger, O. nigrinus, O. pi-onips and O. pullatus were only encountered in these regularly drying ponds. The observations suggest that phantom midges of the genus Chaoborus are important predators of mosquitoes at least in Eastern Lapland.
