Nuorten urheilijoiden kokemat merkitykset jaettiin fyysisiin, psyykkisiin ja sosiaalisiin merkityksiin. N\u00e4m\u00e4 merkitykset voivat olla positiivisia ja negatiivisia. Lis\u00e4ksi selvitettiin urheilijan motiiveita liikuntaluokalle hakeutumiseen sek\u00e4 heid\u00e4n mahdollisia parannusehdotuksia liikuntaluokan toimintaan erityisesti urheilijan n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta. Tutkimus toteutettiin vuoden 2020 koronapandemian aikana, joten nuorten kokemuksia poikkeusoloista on my\u00f6s pyritty kuulemaan.\n\nTutkimuksessa k\u00e4ytettiin laadullista tutkimusta ja aineistonkeruumenetelm\u00e4n\u00e4 puolistrukturoitua teemahaastattelua. Haastattelut suoritettiin yhden liikuntatunnin aikana yksil\u00f6haastatteluina. Haastatteluihin osallistui kahdeksan 9.-luokkalaista poikaa, jotka olivat opiskelleet koko yl\u00e4asteen ajan liikuntaluokalla. Kyseinen koulu oli mukana Olympiakomitean urheiluyl\u00e4koulukokeilussa. Haastateltavat olivat sek\u00e4 joukkue- ett\u00e4 yksil\u00f6lajien urheilijoita. Heill\u00e4 oli erilaisia tulevaisuuden suunnitelmia urheilemisen suhteen. \n\nNuoret urheilijat hakeutuivat liikuntaluokalle, koska siell\u00e4 on enemm\u00e4n liikuntaa. Liikuntaluokka mahdollisti my\u00f6s oman lajin aamutreenit. Hyv\u00e4tasoiset liikuntatunnit ja koulun hyv\u00e4 ymm\u00e4rrys urheilusta johtuvista poissaoloista olivat my\u00f6s monelle t\u00e4rke\u00e4 tekij\u00e4 liikuntaluokalle hakeutumisessa. Liikuntaluokalla kilpailuhenkisyys ja motivaatio menesty\u00e4 urheilussa sek\u00e4 koulussa yht\u00e4 aikaa eiv\u00e4t aiheuttaneet oppilaille ylim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4ist\u00e4 stressi\u00e4. Liikuntaluokka on my\u00f6s sosiaalisesti merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4 paikka nuorille. Oppilaiden mielest\u00e4 samanhenkiset luokkakaverit ovat merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4 tekij\u00e4 liikuntaluokalla viihtymisess\u00e4. Nuoret kaipaisivat kuitenkin urheilijoille suunnatumpaa ja s\u00e4\u00e4nn\u00f6llisemp\u00e4\u00e4 lukuj\u00e4rjestyst\u00e4 sek\u00e4 p\u00e4iv\u00e4rytmi\u00e4. Koronapandemian aiheuttaman et\u00e4opetuksen aikana nuoret p\u00e4\u00e4siv\u00e4t tekem\u00e4\u00e4n liikuntatuntien aikana enemm\u00e4n oman lajin oheisharjoitteita.\n\nLiikuntaluokka oli t\u00e4rke\u00e4 paikka liikunnallisille nuorille p\u00e4\u00e4st\u00e4 viett\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n aikaa muiden liikunnallisten nuorten kanssa. Olympiakomitean hanke urheiluyl\u00e4kouluille on yhten\u00e4ist\u00e4nyt liikuntaluokkien toimintaa ymp\u00e4ri Suomen (Nieminen ym. 2020). Liikuntaluokka edist\u00e4\u00e4 nuorten urheilijoiden kokonaisvaltaista kasvamista kohti urheilijan arkea. Vaikka yl\u00e4koulu ei ole kaksoisuran kannalta kriittisint\u00e4 aikaa, antaa yl\u00e4koulu nuorelle urheilijalle arvokasta kokemusta urheilun ja koulunk\u00e4ynnin yhdist\u00e4misest\u00e4.", "language": "fi", "element": "description", "qualifier": "abstract", "schema": "dc"}, {"key": "dc.description.abstract", "value": "The aim of this study was to investigate perceived meanings of sports orientated class amongst young Finnish athletes on ninth grade. The focus of the study was to observe the meanings that sports orientated class gives to young athletes\u00b4 competitive sports career, potential dual-career and other areas of life. These meanings were distributed to physical, mental and social meanings, nevertheless, the perceived meanings were either positive or negative. Furthermore, it was intended to investigate the young athletes\u00b4 motives to apply for sports orientated class and what improvements they would do to make the sports orientated class even better from athlete\u00b4s point of view. This study was executed during global pandemic (COVID-19) in 2020 so it was also investigated how the young athletes had experienced the state of emergency.\n\nThis research was conducted as a qualitative study by using semi-structured theme interviews. The interviews were accomplished during one physical education class as individual interviews. Eight ninth-grade students from sports orientated class took part in the interviews. The school in question took part to the Finnish Olympic Committee\u00b4s sports focused secondary school experiment. There were both individual and team sport athletes among the students.\n\nThe young athletes decided to apply for the sports orientated class because it included more exercise and physical education classes. Studying in the sports orientated class also enabled the students to participate in the morning practices in their own sport. The good quality of the physical education classes and school\u00b4s understanding about absences due to sports were significant factors for many athletes to apply for the sports orientated class. Despite the competitive atmosphere and the drive to succeed both in school and sports didn\u00b4t come out as stress among the young athletes. Moreover, the sports orientated class was socially a very significant place for the students. Likeminded classmates had a major role in enjoying the studies. The young athletes would have liked if the school had considered the regularity of the athletes\u00b4 daily rhythm better, for example, with more similar schedule in school days. During the global pandemic and online teaching in physical education classes the young athletes were able to do their own exercise programs. \n\nAll in all, the sports orientated class was a significant place for the young athletes to get to spend time with other athletic adolescents. The Finnish Olympic Committees\u00b4 sports focused secondary school experiment have standardized the procedure of the sports orientated classes in Finland (Nieminen etc. 2020). The sports orientated class enhances the young athletes\u00b4 all-encompassing development towards athletic lifestyle.
