Aiemmasta k\u00e4sityksest\u00e4 poiketen, tyypillisest\u00e4 kykytasosta (\u00e4lykkyysosam\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4, \u00c4O) ei ole tieteellist\u00e4 n\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00e4 ASD-henkil\u00f6ill\u00e4.\nT\u00e4ss\u00e4 pro gradu -tutkielmassa tarkasteltiin nuoren aikuisuuden el\u00e4m\u00e4ntilannetta sek\u00e4 kognitiivisen kykytason yhteytt\u00e4 el\u00e4m\u00e4ntilanteeseen nuorilla henkil\u00f6ill\u00e4, joilla on autismikirjonh\u00e4iri\u00f6 (\u00c4O >70) (n=31) ja heid\u00e4n neurotyypillisill\u00e4 verrokeillaan (n=34). Tarkastelun kohteena olivat itsen\u00e4inen asuminen, parisuhde, jatkokoulutus, ty\u00f6el\u00e4m\u00e4ss\u00e4 oleminen sek\u00e4 sosiaaliset suhteet nuoressa aikuisuudessa, joita selvitettiin El\u00e4m\u00e4ntilanne-kyselyll\u00e4. Kognitiivista kykytasoa arvioitiin WAIS-IV kykytestill\u00e4, josta k\u00e4ytettiin kielellisen ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4misen (Verbal Comprehension Index, VCI) sek\u00e4 visuaalisen p\u00e4\u00e4ttelyn (Perceptual Reasoning Index, PRI) indeksej\u00e4.\nRistiintaulukointi osoitti, ett\u00e4 ASD-henkil\u00f6t poikkesivat tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4sti verrokeistaan kaikissa muissa el\u00e4m\u00e4ntilanne-luokissa paitsi jatkokouluttautumisessa. Logistisen regression tulosten mukaan ASD-diagnoosi ennusti heikompaa tulosta kaikissa el\u00e4m\u00e4ntilanne-luokissa. Korkeammat pisteet kielellisen ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4misen indeksiss\u00e4 olivat yhteydess\u00e4 itsen\u00e4iseen asumiseen ja jatkokoulutukseen diagnoosista riippumatta. ASD has often been associated with low intelligence (IQ). However, according to recent research, ASD individuals do not show a typical IQ profile.\nThe current study investigated the transition to adulthood for ASD individuals and controls without cognitive disability (IQ >70). The study focused on the life situations in young adults without intellectual disability, and the relationship to cognitive abilities in ASD (n=31) and control (n=34) populations. Developmental tasks relevant to the transition to young adulthood were assessed through five life situation categories: independent living, romantic relationships, further education, employment and social relationships. Cognitive abilities were measured using WAIS-IV (verbal comprehension index, VCI, and perceptual reasoning index, PRI).\nResults from cross-tabulation analysis showed that ASD individuals differed significantly from controls in all five life situation categories, except for further education. Logistic regression analysis showed that ASD diagnosis predicted weaker success in the accomplishment of any measured developmental task in young adulthood. Higher scores in VCI were connected to independent living and further education regardless of ASD diagnosis. However, when VCI was combined with PRI and ASD diagnosis, no statistically significant interactions between VCI or PRI and diagnosis emerged.\nThe results showed that ASD diagnosis alone can affect the accomplishment of developmental tasks in young adulthood, regardless of cognitive abilities. Life situations were affected similarly by cognitive abilities in ASD and control groups.
