Tutkimuksen aineistona käytettiin kyselyyn saatuja vastauksia. Kysely suoritettiin verkossa ja se jaettiin muun muassa sähköpostilla Jyväskylän yliopiston englannin pääaineopiskelijoille. Vastauksia kyselyyn tuli 36. 25 vastaajista oli naisia ja 11 miehiä ja vastaajien iät olivat 19-41 välillä. Kysely sisälsi monivalintakysymyksiä sekä avoimia kysymyksiä. Tulokset tukevat ajatusta siitä, että viihdemediaa tulisi hyödyntää enemmän kielten opetuksessa. Kaikki vastaajat näkivät yhteyden viihdemedian käytön ja kielenoppimisen välillä. Suurin osa näistä kokemuksista oli positiivisia. Vaikutuksia oltiin pystytty tunnistamaan useilla eri kielenoppimisen osa-alueilla, mutta kuitenkin yli puolet vastaajista koki, että heitä ei oltu kannustettu peruskoulussa viihdemedian hyödyntämiseen. The purpose of this study is to find out if the major English students of Jyväskylä university saw a connection between consuming entertainment media and learning a language. In addition it is studies if their effect has been positive or negative, what areas of language learning they have effected and has consuming entertainment media been encouraged when the participants were 7 to 12 years old. Answers to a poll were used as the material of this study. The poll was conducted online and it was shared via email to Jyväskylä university's English major students. There were 36 participants. 25 of them were female and 11 were male and the participant were aged between 19-41. The poll included multiple choice questions and open questions. The results support the idea that entertainment media should be utilized more in language teaching. All participants saw connection between consuming entertainment media and learning language. Most of the experiences were positive. Participants had been able to recognize effects on multiple areas of language learning, but even so over half of the participants felt like they had not been encouraged to consume entertainment media when they were in comprehensive school.
