Tietoj\u00e4rjestelmien monimutkaisuus on lis\u00e4\u00e4ntynyt, asiakkaiden odotukset ovat korkeat ja kilpailu IS toimittajien v\u00e4lill\u00e4 kovaa. Asiakkaat informaatioteknologian sektorilla odottavat projektin perustavoitteiden toteutumista projektissaan: projektin toimitus sovitun aikataulun mukaan, sovitussa laajuudessa ja kustannuksissa. Lis\u00e4ksi asiakkaat odottavat todellista arvoa liiketoiminnalleen. Projektien ja ratkaisujen tulee olla innovatiivisia ja luovia, tuoda selv\u00e4\u00e4 arvoa ja hy\u00f6ty\u00e4 asiakkaan liiketoiminnalle sek\u00e4 tarjota erinomainen asiakaspalvelukokemus asiakkaalle. Informaatio-teknologia- ja j\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4projektip\u00e4\u00e4llik\u00f6iden tulee pysy\u00e4 kilpailun huipulla ja pit\u00e4\u00e4 osaaminen sek\u00e4 taidot ajan tasalla t\u00e4ss\u00e4 jatkuvasti muuttuvassa maailmassa. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkielmassa oli tavoitteena l\u00f6yt\u00e4\u00e4 tulevaisuuden IS projektip\u00e4\u00e4llik\u00f6ilt\u00e4 vaadittavat taidot ja osaamiset perustuen t\u00e4m\u00e4n hetken tilanteisiin ja tarpeisiin. Kirjallisuuskatsaus loi teoreettisen pohjan empiiriselle tutkimukselle. Uusi viitekehys luotiin k\u00e4ytt\u00e4m\u00e4ll\u00e4 pohjana olemassa olevaa kattavaa osaamiskate-gorisointia. Empiirinen tutkimus toteutettiin teemahaastatteluilla, haastattelemalla IS toimittajan projektip\u00e4\u00e4llik\u00f6it\u00e4, IS toimittajan asiakasyksik\u00f6n johtajia sek\u00e4 asiakkaita. Empiirisen tutkimuksen tulokset osoittavat, ett\u00e4 johtaminen, asiakkaan liiketoimintaymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n tuntemus ja kommunikointi ovat kaikkein t\u00e4rkeimpi\u00e4 taitokategorioita projektip\u00e4\u00e4llik\u00f6ille t\u00e4ll\u00e4 hetkell\u00e4. Haastattelujen tulokset osoittavat my\u00f6s, ett\u00e4 et\u00e4johtaminen, virtuaalitiimitaidot ja kyky yhdist\u00e4\u00e4 erilaisia tiimej\u00e4 monikulttuurisen tiimin johtamisen ohella, ovat eritt\u00e4in t\u00e4rkeit\u00e4 taitoja projektip\u00e4\u00e4llik\u00f6lle tulevaisuudessa. Tulokset viittaavat my\u00f6s siihen, ett\u00e4 projektip\u00e4\u00e4llik\u00f6ill\u00e4 tulee olla erinomaiset esiintymis-, ja englanninkielentaidot suullisen sek\u00e4 kirjallisen kommunikointitaidon lis\u00e4ksi. Information systems are more and more complex, customers\u2019 expectations are high and competition between IS service providers is fierce. Customers in the information technology sectors are expecting basic project goals and objectives to realize in their projects: project delivery on agreed schedules, scopes and costs. In addition, customers are expecting real value for their business. Projects and solutions need to be innovative and creative, bring clear business and IS benefits and provide excellent customers experiences. IS project managers need to stay on top of the competition by keeping their competences and skills up to date in this continuously changing world. The goal of this thesis was to find out, what are the future competences requirements of an IS project manager based on current situations. The literatures reviews created the theory that was used as basis for the empirical research. A new frame-work was created by choosing an existing comprehensive skill categorization. The empirical research was conducted with theme-based interviews, by inter-viewing IS supplier\u00b4s project managers, IS supplier customer managers and customers. One possible future research topic would be to conduct this study in another country to see possible differences between results. Based on the empirical research results, leadership, business domain knowledge and communication were the most important skills categories for project managers. The results indicate that remote leadership, virtual team skill and ability to bridge diverse teams with multicultural team leading are very important skills in the future. The results also indicate that project managers need to have good presentation skills and English skills on top of verbal communication and written communication skills.
