Tavoitteena on my\u00f6s tutkia, miten lasten kaksi- ja monikielisyys kieliymp\u00e4rist\u00f6ss\u00e4 ilmenee ja miten vanhemmat arvioivat lapsen suomalaisen viittomakielen ja suomen kielen kielitaitoa. Viittomakielt\u00e4 omaksuvien lasten kieliymp\u00e4rist\u00f6 on hyvin vaihteleva, vaikka esimerkiksi lains\u00e4\u00e4d\u00e4nn\u00f6n tasolla on annettu useita asetuksia viittomakielest\u00e4. Siit\u00e4 huolimatta lasten arjessa heille tarjoutuu hyvin vaihtelevasti mahdollisuuksia saada viittomakielen opetusta tai sy\u00f6t\u00f6st\u00e4 p\u00e4ivitt\u00e4isess\u00e4 kommunikoinnissaan. T\u00e4m\u00e4 saattaa olla osassa tilanteissa ristiriidassa lains\u00e4\u00e4d\u00e4nt\u00f6jen kanssa. Sen vuoksi on t\u00e4rke\u00e4 tutkia viittomakielt\u00e4 omaksuvien lasten kieliymp\u00e4rist\u00f6\u00e4 ja tarkastella, toteutuvatko viittomakielt\u00e4 k\u00e4ytt\u00e4vien lasten kielelliset oikeudet viittomakielilain mukaisesti.\nViittomakieli on v\u00e4hemmist\u00f6kieli ja sill\u00e4 on v\u00e4hemmist\u00f6kielen asema verrattuna muihin kieliin kuten esimerkiksi puhuttuihin kieliin (Kanto, 2018: 93). Viittomakielt\u00e4 omaksuvat lapset ovat heterogeeninen ryhm\u00e4, koska heill\u00e4 on erilaisia kieli- ja kulttuuritaustoja (Kanto 2018: 92). T\u00e4m\u00e4 vaikuttaa viittomakielt\u00e4 omaksuvien lasten kieliymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n heterogeenisyyteen. Kaksikielisen lapsen kielenkehityksen kannalta on t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4, ett\u00e4 lapsi saa runsaasti sy\u00f6t\u00f6st\u00e4 molemmista kielist\u00e4 (Kanto 2016a: 19). V\u00e4hemmist\u00f6asemassa oleva kieli tarvitsee kieliymp\u00e4rist\u00f6ss\u00e4 enemm\u00e4n kielellisi\u00e4 sy\u00f6t\u00f6ksi\u00e4, jotta v\u00e4hemmist\u00f6kieli saa my\u00f6s riitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti sy\u00f6t\u00f6st\u00e4 kielen omaksumista varten (Gathercole & Thomas 2009: 233\u2013234).\nKvantitatiivisessa kyselytutkimuksessani on kolme tutkimuskysymyst\u00e4, jotka ovat (1) Miten paljon ja mink\u00e4laisia kielellisi\u00e4 sy\u00f6t\u00f6ksi\u00e4 viittomakielt\u00e4 omaksuvat lapset saavat? (2) Miten paljon ja miss\u00e4 tilanteissa lapsi itse k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 eri kieli\u00e4, ja mink\u00e4laisia eroja lapsiryhmien v\u00e4lill\u00e4 mahdollisesti ilmenee kielten k\u00e4yt\u00f6ss\u00e4? (3) Miten vanhemmat arvioivat lapsen kielitaitoa suomalaisessa viittomakieless\u00e4 ja suomen kieless\u00e4, ja miten t\u00e4rke\u00e4n\u00e4 he pit\u00e4v\u00e4t lapsen kaksi- ja monikielisyytt\u00e4? Kyselytutkimuksen aineisto koostui 87 viittomakielt\u00e4 omaksuvan lapsen taustatietolomakkeesta.\nTuloksissa nousi esiin suomalaisen viittomakielen v\u00e4hemmist\u00f6kieliasema, joka n\u00e4kyi viittomakielt\u00e4 omaksuvien lasten kieliymp\u00e4rist\u00f6ss\u00e4 eroavuuksina. Viittomakielt\u00e4 omaksuvien lasten kieliymp\u00e4rist\u00f6ss\u00e4 kielten kielelliset sy\u00f6t\u00f6kset painottuivat suomalaiseen viittomakieleen ja suomen kieleen. Viittomakielen opetusta oli saanut yli puolet viittomakielt\u00e4 omaksuvista lapsista. Viittomakielt\u00e4 omaksuvien lasten kaksi- ja monikielisyys on \u00e4\u00e4rimm\u00e4isen t\u00e4rke\u00e4 asia lasten vanhemmille. The objective is also to study how bilingualism and multilingualism appear in their linguistic environment and how their parents evaluate children\u2019s language skills in Finnish Sign Language and Finnish. Linguistic environment of children acquiring Finnish Sign Language varies very much, however the Finnish legislation has set acts for sign language. Regardless of that, there are considerable variations in their opportunities to access sign language lessons and their linguistic exposure in daily communication. Those might be in conflict with legislation. For this reason, it is important to study the linguistic environment of children acquiring Finnish Sign Language and consider if the linguistic rights for children acquiring Finnish Sign Language are fulfilled to meet the requirements of the Sign Language Act.\nFinnish Sign Language is a minority language and has the status of a minority language compared to other languages such as other spoken languages (Kanto, 2018: 93). Children acquiring Finnish Sign Language are a heterogeneous group because they have different linguistic and cultural backgrounds (Kanto 2018: 92). This affects the heterogeneity of the linguistic environment of children acquiring Finnish Sign Language. It is important for the language development of a bilingual child that the child receives plenty of exposure from both languages (Kanto 2016a: 19). A language in a minority status needs more linguistic exposure in the linguistic environment in which the minority language also gets enough exposure for language acquisition (Gathercole & Thomas 2009: 233-234). The quantitative survey research has three research questions which are (1) How much and what kind of linguistic exposures do children acquiring Finnish Sign Language get? (2) How much and in what kind of situations does the child himself / herself use different languages, and what kind of differences may there be between the groups of children in the use of languages? (3) How do parents evaluate the child's language skills in Finnish Sign Language and Finnish, and how important do they consider the child's bilingualism and multilingualism? The data of the study consisted of 87 children background information sheets of the survey targeted to those 87 children acquiring Finnish Sign Language.\nThe minority language status of Finnish Sign Language was emergent in the results, which were reflected in variation in the linguistic environment of children acquiring Finnish Sign Language. In the linguistic environment of children acquiring Finnish Sign Language, the linguistic exposure of the languages were emphasized in Finnish Sign Language and Finnish. Finnish Sign Language lessons have been given to more than half of children acquiring Finnish Sign Language.\nThe bilingualism and multilingualism of children acquiring Finnish Sign Language is very important for the parents of the children.
