Tutkielmassa k\u00e4yd\u00e4\u00e4n l\u00e4pi reaktion komponenttien, eli isonitriilin, karbonyylin ja Br\u00f8nsted-Lowry- tai Lewis-happokomponentin vaihtelumahdollisuuksia, sek\u00e4 erilaisia katalyyttisi\u00e4 ja enantio- ja diastereoselektiivisi\u00e4 variantteja. Lis\u00e4ksi pohditaan Passerini-reaktion ja sen muunnelmien mekanismeja, toteutuksia ja liuottimen vaikutusta. Erityist\u00e4 huomiota kiinnitet\u00e4\u00e4n katalysoituihin versioihin ja niiden kehitysmahdollisuuksiin. Kirjallisuuskatsauksessa tarkastellaan my\u00f6s luonnonainesynteesej\u00e4, joissa katalysoituja Passerini-reaktioita on hy\u00f6dynnetty.\n\nTutkielman toinen osio koostuu laboratoriossa tehdyn kokeellisen osuuden raportoinnista. Kokeellisen osuuden ensisijainen tarkoitus oli toteuttaa totaalisynteesit luonnonaineisiin nostosiini A ja nostosiini B, k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en apuna uuden kiraalisen hiilen muodostavaa Passerini-reaktiota. Kyseisi\u00e4 suunnitelmia ja toteutuksia on osittain tehty Saara Riuttam\u00e4en opinn\u00e4ytety\u00f6ss\u00e4, joka toimii oman tutkimukseni l\u00e4ht\u00f6kohtana. Synteesipolut suunniteltiin siten, ett\u00e4 viimeisten vaiheiden tulosten annettiin ratkaista saadaanko tuotteeksi joko nostosiini A tai nostosiini B. Toissijainen tarkoitus ty\u00f6ss\u00e4 oli kehitt\u00e4\u00e4 stereoselektiivinen variantti Passerini-reaktioon. Kirjallisuuskatsauksen perusteella kehitettiin uusia boorihaposta johdettuja kiraalisia borinihappoja stereoselektiiviseen Passerini-reaktioon. N\u00e4iden Lewis-happojen synteesit j\u00e4tettiin kuitenkin kehitysasteille, sill\u00e4 varmuutta niiden synteesien onnistumisista ei saatu. Totaalisynteesipolun viimeisi\u00e4 vaiheita nostosiini B:hen ei ehditty saattaa loppuun kokonaisuudessaan, mutta reaktiosarjan viimeisess\u00e4 vaiheessa saatiin kuitenkin ep\u00e4puhdasta nostosiini B:t\u00e4 tuotteena.
