Tilanteissa,\njossa tasapaino yll\u00e4tt\u00e4en menetet\u00e4\u00e4n, nopea voimantuotto on t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4. Ik\u00e4\u00e4ntymisen my\u00f6t\u00e4 nopea voimantuotto\nkuitenkin heikkenee. Plyometrisen harjoittelun on todettu hidastavan lihasmassan ja voiman v\u00e4henemist\u00e4, sek\u00e4\nparantavan mahdollisesti tasapainon hallintaa ik\u00e4\u00e4ntyneill\u00e4.\nT\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin miten nelj\u00e4n viikon plyometrinen harjoittelu vaikuttaa nuorten ja ik\u00e4\u00e4ntyneiden\nnaisten hermolihasj\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4n toimintaan ja tasapainoon. Tutkimuksessa tehtiin alku- ja loppumittaukset, sek\u00e4\nseurantamittaukset seitsem\u00e4n viikkoa harjoittelun j\u00e4lkeen. Tutkittavina oli vapaaehtoisia nuoria (n = 9, 18-30 v) ja\nik\u00e4\u00e4ntyneit\u00e4 (n = 10, 60-70) naisia. Mittausp\u00e4ivin\u00e4 tutkittavilta mitattiin tasapainon horjutuksen aiheuttamat siirtym\u00e4t,\npolven- ja nilkan ojennuksen isometriset maksimivoimat, patellan refleksivaste, staattisen kyykkyhypyn aikainen\nlihasaktiivisuus soleus-, gastrocnemius medialis-, tibialis anterior-, vastus lateralis- ja biceps femoris-lihaksista, sek\u00e4\nkyykkyhypyn korkeus.\nPlyometrinen harjoittelu paransi hyppykorkeutta tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4sti kummassakin tutkimusryhm\u00e4ss\u00e4\n(F=6.234 ja p=0.006). Harjoittelu ei vaikuttanut posterior-suuntaisessa tasapainoh\u00e4iri\u00f6ss\u00e4 h\u00e4iri\u00f6n aikaisiin siirtymiin\ntilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4sti (F=3.071 ja p=0.065), mutta tulosta voidaan kuitenkin pit\u00e4\u00e4 suuntaa antavana. Lis\u00e4ksi\nnilkan ojentajien isometrinen maksimivoima laski loppu- ja seurantamittausten v\u00e4lill\u00e4 tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4sti\n(p=0.007). Muissa mitatuissa muuttujissa ei harjoittelulla ollut tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4\u00e4 vaikutusta. Plyometrinen\nharjoittelu n\u00e4ytti vaikuttavan samalla tavalla sek\u00e4 nuorten ett\u00e4 ik\u00e4\u00e4ntyneiden ryhm\u00e4ss\u00e4.\nPlyometrinen harjoittelu n\u00e4ytt\u00e4isi sopivan my\u00f6s ik\u00e4\u00e4ntyneille. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa hyppykorkeus kasvoi ja tasapainon\nkehityksess\u00e4 n\u00e4htiin positiivinen trendi. Lis\u00e4tutkimuksia kuitenkin tarvitaan jotta ymm\u00e4rret\u00e4\u00e4n paremmin kuinka\nkauan, mill\u00e4 intensiteetill\u00e4 ja millaisilla plyometrisilla harjoitteilla tulee harjoitella jotta saadaan paras mahdollinen\nharjoitusvaste ja sit\u00e4 kautta v\u00e4hennetty\u00e4 tasapainon menett\u00e4misest\u00e4 johtuvia kaatumisia. Aging causes structural and neural changes that impair performance.\nSerious falls increase the risk of premature death and weakens the quality of life. In situations where balance is\nsuddenly lost the fast force production is important. However, with age the fast force production declines. Plyometric\nexercise has been found to slow down the decrease of muscle mass and strength and also to possibly improve the\nbalance on the elderly\nThe aim of this study was to examine how four weeks of plyometric exercise affects the balance and functionality of\nneuromuscular system of young and elderly women. The study consisted of three measurements: initial (just before\ntraining period), final (just after four weeks plyometric training) and follow-up (after seven weeks of detraining). The\ntest group consisted of voluntary young (n = 9, 18-30) and elderly (n = 10, 60-70) women. Measurements were made\nfor displacements of the center-of-pressure caused by pertubations of balance, maximal isometric forces of knee\nextension and plantar flexion, EMG amplitude of patellar reflex, EMG activity of five lower limb muscles (soleus-,\ngastrocnemius medialis-, tibialis anterior-, vastus lateralis- and biceps femoris) during static squat jump and the height\nof the squat jump.\nPlyometric exercise improved statistically significantly the height of the squat jump in both research groups (F=6.234\nja p=0.006). Plyometric exercise did not have statistically significant effect on balance control during posterior\npertubations (F=3.071 ja p=0.065), but the trend was positive. The isometric maximum force of plantar flexors\ndecreased statistically significantly between final and follow-up measurements (p= 0.007). In other measured variables\nno statistically significant effect was found. Plyometric exercise seemed to affect similarly in both the young and\nelderly groups.\nPlyometric training seems to suit also for the elderly. In this study the improvement in the squat jump height was seen,\nas well as the positive trend in balance control. Still, more research is needed to better understand the duration, intensity\nand type of plyometric exercises to be used in order to get the best possible training response and thereby reduce falls\ncaused by loss of balance.
