Data on todennäköisesti merkittävin asia IoT:n mahdollistamisessa, joten tämän siirtämisessä tarvitaan tehokkaita menetelmiä. Näitä menetelmiä tutkielmassa tunnistettiin kirjallisuudesta ja näiden mahdollisia sovellutustapauksia käsiteltiin. Lisäksi kirjallisuudesta etsittiin teollisuuteen liittyviä yleisiä datan keräysmenetelmiä ja kuinka dataa käytetään ja esitetään järjestelmissä. Tutkielman empiirisessä osuudessa käsitellään tiedonsiirtokonseptin luontia ja tämän hyödyntämistä tapaustyöpajan koneiston tiedonsiirtämisessä koneista pilvipalveluihin. Tällaisen tiedonsiirron saavuttaminen ei ole yritykselle ennestään kovin tuttua, mutta datan potentiaali on tunnistettu osittain. Tavoitteena on luoda ensimmäinen dataputki tietystä työpajan koneesta niin, että data saadaan näkymään ja tallennettua pilvipalveluun. Tällä testataan kuinka toteuttamiskelpoinen konsepti on ja minkälaisia vaatimuksia tämä asettaa yritykselle. Kustannustehokkuus on tässä tutkielmassa tärkein kriteeri konseptin luomisessa ja testaamisessa. Tuloksien saavuttamisen jälkeen arvioidaan, kuinka hyvin kehitetty ratkaisu tietylle koneelle vastaa asetettua liiketoiminta-arvoa ja kuinka ratkaisua voitaisiin vielä kehittää asetettujen tavoitteiden saavuttamiseksi. Kuten usein muissakin IoT pyrkimyksissä, koneiston heterogeenisyys on yksi suurimpia haasteita tavoitteille, ja tämän takia ratkaisuja täytyy kehittää useita erilaisille koneille tiedonsiirtomenetelmissä. Yleisen tiedonsiirtokonseptin luomisessa työpajoille tämä tulee ottaa huomioon. Tutkielman lopussa tehdään yhteenveto ja käsitellään mahdollisia jatkotutkimusaiheita. The purpose of this thesis is to identify common data transfer methods in Internet of Things (IoT) context and how to implement these in case workshop. The IoT concept holds more than just data transfer but making the data available is essential in order to further develop the concept. The data is arguably the biggest enabler in IoT, which requires efficient ways of transferring it. The IoT methods are identified from literature and their application areas defined. After this, from literature the common industrial data acquisition methods are described, and how the data is utilized and presented in systems generally. The empirical part of thesis holds practical implementation of data trans-fer concept from case workshop machinery to cloud services. The data transfer from machinery is relatively unknown for the case’s application area, company’s workshops, yet the potential is realized partly. The goal is to enable the first data pipe from specific machines in the workshop to the cloud for further analysis. This is a test to evaluate how feasible and what it requires from the company to further on develop the concept. Cost effectiveness is main criteria for the first-time implementation in data transfer from workshop. After the test subjects’ data is successfully transferred in to the cloud storage, the evaluation on how the developed solution fits the business value needs and are there more efficient ways still to achieve the goals set for the data. Like often in IoT efforts, the heterogeneity of machinery is one of the biggest issues and it requires multiple different solutions for data transfer and therefore the process of developing the overall concept for data transfer needs to address them. At the end of thesis, future research topics are proposed, and conclusion is made from the subject.
