Nuorten mielenterveyden ongelmien lis\u00e4\u00e4ntyess\u00e4, avun hakemisen sijoittuessa virka-aikojen ulkopuolelle ja internetin tullessa koko ajan vahvemmin osaksi nuorten el\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4, on t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 pysty\u00e4 kehitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n digitaalisten ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6jen aihesis\u00e4lt\u00f6j\u00e4 vastaamaan entist\u00e4 paremmin haavoittuvassa asemassa olevien nuorten tarpeisiin. Sen vuoksi on t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, miten nuoret kuvaavat mielialaansa liittyvi\u00e4 tuen tarpeitaan.\n\nT\u00e4m\u00e4n pro gradu -tutkielman tarkoituksena oli kuvata nuorten mielialaoireita ja niiden taustatekij\u00f6it\u00e4 sek\u00e4 nuorten mielialaan liittyvi\u00e4 tuen tarpeita ja chat-palvelun k\u00e4yt\u00f6n hy\u00f6tyj\u00e4 nuorten mielenterveyden edist\u00e4misess\u00e4. Tutkimuksen aineistona k\u00e4ytettiin Pelastakaa lapset ry:n Netari-chatista elo-lokakuun 2019 v\u00e4lisen\u00e4 aikana ker\u00e4ttyj\u00e4 nuorten ja ohjaajien v\u00e4lisi\u00e4 aihepiirilt\u00e4\u00e4n mielenterveyteen liittyvi\u00e4 keskustelutallenteita (n=43). Aineisto analysoitiin aineistol\u00e4ht\u00f6isen ja teoriaohjaavan sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysin pohjalta.\n\nMerkitt\u00e4vimm\u00e4ksi mielialaan liittyv\u00e4ksi tuen tarpeeksi nousi nuorten tarve tulla kohdatuiksi ja kuulluiksi oikea-aikaisesti juuri sill\u00e4 hetkell\u00e4, kun avun piiriin hakeuduttiin. Mik\u00e4li nuoret eiv\u00e4t tulleet kohdatuiksi, kun he hakivat apua, j\u00e4i merkitt\u00e4vin nuorten mielialaan liittyv\u00e4 tuen tarve t\u00e4yttym\u00e4tt\u00e4. Chat vaikutti tulosten perusteella sopivan nuorten mielenterveysty\u00f6h\u00f6n hyvin, sill\u00e4 sen kautta nuorille pystyttiin tarjoamaan tukea ja apua oikea-aikaisesti heid\u00e4n hakiessaan sit\u00e4 virka-aikojen ulkopuolella. Chatissa keskusteleminen helpotti nuorten oloa, lis\u00e4si heid\u00e4n avun hakemisaikomuksiaan ja rohkaisi heit\u00e4 kertomaan omasta tilanteestaan muille. Chat n\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytyi perinteisten mielenterveyspalveluiden t\u00e4ydent\u00e4j\u00e4n\u00e4, mutta ei korvaajana, sill\u00e4 chatista nuoret eiv\u00e4t voineet saada tarvitsemaansa ja toisinaan kaipaamaansa ammattiapua.\n\nTutkimustulokset tarjoavat nuorten parissa ty\u00f6skenteleville hy\u00f6dyllist\u00e4 tietoa nuorten mielialaan liittyvist\u00e4 tuen tarpeista. Tulosten avulla nuorille suunnattujen digitaalisten ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6jen mielenterveyteen liittyvi\u00e4 sis\u00e4lt\u00f6j\u00e4 ja verkossa toimivia palveluita voidaan kehitt\u00e4\u00e4 vastaamaan entist\u00e4 paremmin nuorten tarpeisiin ja siten helpottaa my\u00f6s nuorten avun hakemista. Tulokset toimivat my\u00f6s perusteluna nuorten mielenterveytt\u00e4 edist\u00e4vien palveluiden sek\u00e4 nuorten ja heid\u00e4n huoltajiensa sek\u00e4 heid\u00e4n parissaan ty\u00f6skentelevien aikuisten mielenterveyteen liittyv\u00e4n terveysosaamisen kehitt\u00e4mistarpeelle. Jatkossa olisi t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 tutkia, mitk\u00e4 tekij\u00e4t vaikuttavat nuorten mielenterveyteen liittyv\u00e4n terveysosaamisen kehittymiseen ja miten nuorten ja aikuisten mielenterveyteen liittyv\u00e4\u00e4 terveysosaamista voitaisiin vahvistaa. Olisi my\u00f6s t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 tutkia, miten kouluissa ja oppilaitoksissa tapahtuvaa mielenterveyden edist\u00e4miseen ja mielenterveysh\u00e4iri\u00f6iden ennaltaehk\u00e4isemiseen liittyv\u00e4\u00e4 opetusta, toimintatapoja ja kulttuuria pystytt\u00e4isiin muuttamaan nykyist\u00e4 vaikuttavammaksi.", "language": "fi", "element": "description", "qualifier": "abstract", "schema": "dc"}, {"key": "dc.description.abstract", "value": "The mental health of young people is a growing concern worldwide. As young people's mental health problems increase, help-seeking falls outside office hours and the use of internet becomes more and more a part of their life, it is important to develop thematic content in digital environments to meet the needs of young people. It is therefore important to find out how they describe their support needs related to their mental health.\n\nThe purpose of this study was to explore how young people describe their mood, what causes the young people\u2019s mental health problems, what are the support needs related to their mental health and what are the benefits of using online chat services in promoting young people\u2019s mental health. The material used in the study was chat conversations between young people and chat mentors on the topic of mental health (n = 43). The material was collected from the Netari chat of the Save the Children Association between August and October 2019. Data-driven and theory-guided content analysis were used as the data analysis methods.\n\nThe results of this study showed that the most significant mental health related support need was the need for young people to be met and heard at the very moment when they sought for help. If they were not encountered when they sought for help, the most significant support need related to their mental health was not met. Based on the results, the chat was well suited to the mental health work among young people as it enabled to provide support and assistance to young people in a right time as they sought for help outside office hours. Conversations with chat mentors made the young people feel better, increased their intentions to seek help, and encouraged them to share their own situation with others. The chat appeared to be a complement to traditional mental health services, but not a substitute for it, as young people could not get the professional help they needed from the chat.\n\nThe results of this study provide useful information on support needs related to young people's mental health for those working with young people. The results enable the development of mental health content and online services for young people in digital environments to meet their needs and also make it easier for them to seek help. The results also serve as arguments for the need to develop mental health services and the mental health skills of young people and their carers as well as adults working with them. Based on this study the further research is needed to examine what factors influence the development of young people's mental health skills and how young people's and adults' mental health skills could be strengthened.
