T\u00e4m\u00e4 kiinnostus et\u00e4opetuksen vaikutuksista erityisesti kielten opetukseen on perusteltua johtuen vuorovaikutuksen keskeisyydest\u00e4 kieltenoppimisessa. Kommunikaatio on kieltenopetuksessa paitsi opetuksen v\u00e4line, my\u00f6s sen kohde. Kun tuo kommunikaatio tapahtuu teknologian v\u00e4lityksell\u00e4, on sill\u00e4 vaikutusta niin opetuksen sis\u00e4lt\u00f6\u00f6n kuin opetuksen kannalta parhaisiin sosiaalisiin ja pedagogisiin ratkaisuihin. Suomessa tutkimusta et\u00e4opetuksesta on tehty verrattain v\u00e4h\u00e4n ja sen vaikutuksista kieltenopetukseen sit\u00e4kin v\u00e4hemm\u00e4n. Opettajakoulutus on Suomessa yliopistotasoinen koulutus, mutta moni suomalainen yliopisto ei tutkimuksen tekohetkell\u00e4 tarjoa et\u00e4opetuskoulutusta kieltenopettajaksi opiskeleville. T\u00e4m\u00e4 tutkimus kartoittaa mink\u00e4laisia asenteita ja oletuksia yhden suomalaisen yliopiston kieltenopettajaksi opiskelevilla opiskelijoilla on et\u00e4opetusta kohtaan ja kuinka hyvin n\u00e4m\u00e4 vastaavat et\u00e4opetusta tehneiden englanninopettajien kokemuksia. Tarkoituksena on tutkia kuinka valmiita kieltenopettajaopiskelijat, joilla on hyvin v\u00e4h\u00e4n et\u00e4opetuskokemusta, tuntevat olevansa vastaamaan et\u00e4opetuksen haasteisiin ja k\u00e4ytt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n hyv\u00e4ksi siihen sis\u00e4ltyvi\u00e4 mahdollisuuksia. Tulokset osoittavat opettajien ja opiskelijoiden v\u00e4lill\u00e4 niin yhtym\u00e4kohtia kuin eroavaisuuksiakin ja viittaavat vahvasti siihen, ett\u00e4 kieltenopettajaopiskelijat tuntevat ep\u00e4tietoisuutta valmiudestaan kielten et\u00e4opetukseen. Opiskelijoiden keskuudessa oli havaittavissa joitain oletuksia et\u00e4opetuksesta, kuten kieltenoppimiseen kohdistuvan ahdistuksen v\u00e4hentyminen, joita nykytutkimus ei n\u00e4yt\u00e4 tukevan. Esiin tuli my\u00f6s joitain et\u00e4opettajien mainitsemia haasteita, kuten oppilaiden v\u00e4h\u00e4inen osallistuminen kontaktiopetukseen, joita opiskelijat eiv\u00e4t osanneet ennakoida. Lis\u00e4ksi koetut mahdollisuudet n\u00e4htiin l\u00e4ht\u00f6kohtaisesti opiskelijoiden ja yhteiskunnan n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta, jolloin potentiaaliset pedagogiset mahdollisuudet j\u00e4iv\u00e4t usein havaitsematta.
