Tutkielma on toteutettu systemaattisena kirjallisuuskatsauksena ja sen tuloksista voidaan todeta Games as a Servicen olevan liiketoimintamalli, jossa videopeli tarjotaan alustana säännölliselle lisäsisällölle ja päivityksille, jonka tavoitteena on muodostaa sekä pelinkehittäjän ja pelaajan pitkäaikainen ja molempia hyödyttävä suhde. Games as a Servicellä on paljon muutoksia videopelimarkkinoihin, sillä pelien elinkaarten pidentyessä pelien kehityskulut pienentyvät ja niistä saatavat liikevoitot kasvavat. Pidemmällä elinkaarella on myös vaikutuksensa videopelien kehittäjiin, sillä pelien ylläpito ja jatkokehitys sitovat enemmän resursseja, kuin aikaisemmin. This study is conducted in an effort to examine a new phenomenon and its effects in the videogame industry, labeled Games as a Service. The study is conducted in a systematic literature review. The results of the study indicate that Games as a Service is a business model, in which a videogame is offered to the player as a platform for regular updates and additional content. The aim of the business model is to form a long and mutually beneficial relationship between the player and the developers. The Games as a Service model has significant effects on the videogame industry, as the lengthening of the videogames life cycle the cost of updates and additional content reduces and similarly the revenue increases. The longer lifecycle also has its effect on the development of videogames, since updating and developing additional content requires more resources than earlier.
