Ohjelmistotuotemarkkinoiden vuosittaisen arvon arvioidaan olevan satoja miljardeja dollareita. Ohjelmistotuotteilla on useita ominaisuuksia, jotka tekev\u00e4t niist\u00e4 uniikkeja suhteessa fyysisiin hy\u00f6dykkeisiin ja tuotteisiin. Ohjelmistotuotehallinnan k\u00e4yt\u00e4nteet vastaavat t\u00e4h\u00e4n haasteeseen, mutta k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6ss\u00e4 asiassa on paljon parannettavaa. Tarkoitusta varten on kehitetty useita ohjelmistotuotehallinnan viitekehyksi\u00e4, joista yksi on ISPMA:n SPM-viitekehys. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa perehdyttiin kyseisen viitekehyksen soveltamisen parhaisiin k\u00e4yt\u00e4nteisiin ja viitekehyksest\u00e4 saataviin hy\u00f6tyihin monimenetelm\u00e4tutkimuksen kautta. Tutkimuksen empiirisess\u00e4 osassa yhdisteltiin m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4llisen kyselytutkimuksen ja laadullisen puolistrukturoidun haastattelun menetelmi\u00e4 kuvan luomiseksi parhaista k\u00e4yt\u00e4nteist\u00e4 ja hy\u00f6dyist\u00e4. Tutkimuksen tulokset perustuvat aineistoon, jota ker\u00e4ttiin kansainv\u00e4liselt\u00e4 joukolta ohjelmistotuotehallinnan ammattilaisia. Tulokset n\u00e4ytt\u00e4v\u00e4t, ett\u00e4 ISPMA:n SPM-viitekehyksen avulla prosessien jalkauttamiseen tai parantamiseen on olemassa useita parhaita k\u00e4yt\u00e4nteit\u00e4. Parhaat k\u00e4yt\u00e4nteet liittyv\u00e4t kolmeen prosessikehityksen onnistumistekij\u00e4\u00e4n: johdon sitoutumiseen, rooleihin ja vastuihin, sek\u00e4 henkil\u00f6st\u00f6n osallistamiseen. Parhaita k\u00e4yt\u00e4nteit\u00e4 ovat esimerkiksi nykytilan kartoittaminen viitekehyst\u00e4 vasten, samansuuntaiset prosessikehityksen tavoitteet sek\u00e4 toistuva ja avoin viestint\u00e4 prosessikehityksen aikana. Lis\u00e4ksi tutkimuksessa l\u00f6ydettiin useita prosessien kehitt\u00e4miseen liittyvi\u00e4 hy\u00f6tyj\u00e4, joilla on positiivisia vaikutuksia organisaatioille sek\u00e4 sis\u00e4isesti ett\u00e4 ulkoisesti. L\u00f6ydetyt hy\u00f6dyt sis\u00e4lt\u00e4v\u00e4t esimerkiksi parannuksia viestinn\u00e4ss\u00e4, asiakastyytyv\u00e4isyydess\u00e4 sek\u00e4 henkil\u00f6st\u00f6n tyytyv\u00e4isyydess\u00e4. Tutkimuksen tuloksista on hy\u00f6tyj\u00e4 sek\u00e4 k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n ett\u00e4 teorian kannalta. The software product market is estimated to be generating hundreds of billions of dollars every year. Software products have several characteristics, which make them unique from physical goods and need to be considered when managing them. Software Product Management practic-es address that challenge, but the actual state of practice based on prior research shows that there is much to improve. Several different product management frameworks exist for that purpose, one of them being ISPMA\u2019s SPM framework. This study investigated the best practices for and benefits from implementing software product management processes based on the ISPMA\u2019s SPM frame-work via a mixed-methods research approach. The combination of quantitative survey and qualitative semi-structured interview research methods was utilized in the empirical part of the study to create an understanding of what the best practices and benefits are. The findings, based on the data collected from an international group of software product management professionals, show that there are several best practices associated with implementing and improving processes based on the ISPMA\u2019s SPM Framework. The best practices are associ-ated to three success factors for process improvement: management commit-ment, roles and responsibilities, and staff involvement. Such best practices in-clude for example mapping current state against the framework, aligned objec-tives for process improvement, and regular and open communication during the process improvements. Furthermore, the study found various benefits relat-ed to such process improvements, which have positive impacts to organizations both internally and externally. The found benefits include for example im-provements in communication, customer satisfaction, and employee satisfaction. These results of the thesis contribute to both theory and practice.
